ok, i know JET makes a speedo correction ship for the 95 5.2 dakota, anyone know of another one that is possibly cheaper?
jet runs about $150

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just go to the dealer? ...or do you plan on having to correct it multiple times?

I'm gonna go with Superchips...but they cost more and they're for 98+ I believe...

well, will prolly end up with a few different tire sizes in the future
this way i only have to pay one
and yeah right, take it to a dealer?
even if its a 10 min job they still charge one hour labor, and if they have to hook it to a machine there is more cost involved there
so i could take it to the dealer and prolly still pay $150

I am pretty sure the 95 uses a gear driven off of the tail shaft. The gears are like $20 each. You can cahnge them in about 15 min.

yes, but the speedo is electronic, on the 1990 it was cable driven

I agree, I was under the impression a 95 still had the 46RH with a gear driven off of the tail shaft. Even though the speedometer is electronic, it's still controlled by a gear driven sensor so changing the gear will change the sensor readings thus alter the speedometer readings. I think you just need to change the gear.

Walt is correct. The '97 was the last year to use the gear driven from the tailshaft. '98 started using the speed sensor off the wheel.

ill look into it, i still have the 1990 T-case in pieces, ill check to see if there is a different gear on it and then pull the one out of the 95 and see if they are different, if not ill go to the parts store and see
does anyone happen to know what i would have to do to change my speedo so its not 7mph off?
im thinking get a bigger geareither way, ill have to check it out
i wont speculate anymore until i pull it apart, i cant remember how its set up

I am not 100% sure, but I think the gear is a dealer only type item. I think mine was $25. All you need to do is tell them what size tire you have and the axle ratio. They will get you the right gear.

well as i have said before on here
i went from 3.55 with a 28" tire to 3.92 with 30" tires
it should be right, but its not

I don't think it should be right; not sure how you figured that ? If my calculations are right, you should be off by about 3.5 %. Circumference of a circle is pi(roughly 3.14) times the radius squared, that gives us how far each tire travels in one revolution. Then I divided each result by the gear ratio. Where did you get the tire heights - are you sure they are right ? Either my math or some of your numbers must be wrong. I'm sure you don't mean you are off 7mph at 200 mph !

No matter what, you can't be off 7 mph at all speeds; you should be off by a fixed percentage at all speeds. Maybe you just neglected to say at what speed you are 7 mph off ? But then we'd still need to look at the numbers closer.

I believe that is the area of a circle...

Pi(3.14) x Diameter = Circumference

this may or may not help you.

going from a 28" tall tire to a 30" tall tire your speedo would be slow by about 6.3%.

going from 3.55's to 3.92's you're off 9.4%

Thanks mathman, and daddio. I'm a bit rusty, 30 some odd years out of school. No matter how I pushed the numbers I could see it wouldn't equal out though...
