Subject: !!CLUNK!! IP: Logged
Message: heres the story...yesterday I was backing into a parking spot when I got to work. when I cut the wheel to the right as I was backing up I heard a loud clunk sound. didnt think much of it because once in a great while I hear something like that when I take a corner. anyway, when I got off work and was driving home the truck pulled to the right. not super hard but enough to piss me off.
I just did my balljoints back in november along with my tie-rod ends, endlinks, and sway bar bushings. the only other thing that has crossed my mind was my right caliper dragging. The threads have been pulled out of a few of the caliper mounts. I've been meaning to go get a helicoil kit, just hasnt been my top priority. I'm gonna jack it up and see if I cant figure out whats wrong with it. any feedback on this at all is appreciated. thanks guys.

Message: Yes I have had to helicoil my caliper bolt holes in the steering knockle. Also along with everything else you have replaced consider replacing your calipers, they seize in the bores. Took me a long time to figure this out. Yes, these dodges are junk, ball joints, rotors, hub and bearing assemblies, ty rod ends, calipers, water pumps, surpentine belts, belt tensioners, and fan clutches. My advise is to sell this junk before it bankruptes you.

Message: there are quite a few common problems but nothing too hard to fix. or too expensive for that matter. overall I'm satisfied with 98 2wd clubcab. and then again, I only paid for the trans in it, I traded the truck for a rusty old 92 explorer about 3 years ago. can't complain really.

Message: Some people have no problems with their Dodges while others have or have had many issues. Nothing cheap about replacing an AC compressor, tranny, intake manifold, or rear end gears (At least at the stealership - I would recommend an independant repair shop if not under warranty). But thank God for an extended warranty. lol So far no issues with ball joints or tranny with my 99' Dak, but only have 43,000 miles on it so far. Brakes suck, though dealer said they are operating to specs. Could of been that cheap Midas brake job though. Think George used some of his old grill parts for it. Better brake pads may help that.
