Subject: Instrument Panel going haywire IP: Logged
Message: I just replaced my CD player and after hooking everything back up, I have a problem. My speedometer and tach don't work. My gas gauge reads empty and engine temp cold. My odometer flashes then goes and says "nO bUs". I don't know what's going on. I've unhooked the battery and let it sit as well as checked all fuses. Any input?

Message: pull the radio back out and see if you pinched any wiring between the radio and dash. the radio is also on the (BUSS) so you may have shorted the buss wires to the radio chassis putting it back in. think of the buss as a party-line telephone system it connects all the modules together so they can all talk to the controllers over 2 wires so if you short it. it affects more than one module depending on where its shorted or disconnected. on your year it still should be a seperate 2 wire harness on the back of your radio 2 white or white/black striped wires in a 2-way white connector. if unused it gets taped to the radio harness and left but can get pinched easily when the harness is stuffed behind the radio and reinstalled. let us know when you can and good luck

Message: When I accidently hooked my battery up backwards - duh - my instruments acted up and I couldn't figure it out. turned out to be a blown fuse in the under hood fuse panel. They have extras in the panel- you could try replacing them with the spare to see if one is blown out and just not visible.

Message: sounds like you blew the main fuse like I did in the under hood fuse block. I would lean on the blown fuse theory as you said it was all fine before you put in the stereo. Have you also tried starting it in neutral?

Message: You dingleberries, a bus bar in a fuse block or box carries power to each terminal or circuit. If you are getting no bus it means nothing is getting power to the PCM. That probably means a blown main fuse. You can try replacing the main fuse regardless if it looks fine. Try the spare. If you still get "no go" on righting things, I guess you'll have to have it hauled to the stealershop for a diagnosis.

Message: oh my the (Buss) we are referring to is a 2 wire twisted pair of wires that provide a communication link to the modules and controllers. 04 dak had the radio out and then had problems after putting it all back together so we said to look there first since the radio may or not be connected to the buss depending on the radio he has but the harness is there for it either way and depending on where the buss is shorted or open some modules will work and some wont. like a said its like a party-line phone system. the buss get its power from the PCM and/or BCM but there is a direct link in the OBDII connector so the DRB can communicate directy with the PCM
