Subject: good deal? IP: Logged
Message: I found a 9.25" rear end from a 1999 R/T w/ 3.92 gears for $480. It has 94,352 miles on it. Is there any maintenance I would have to do? It should be a direct bolt-on on my 03 QC w/ the stock 8.25".

Message: It should be the same width as the rear in your truck; but would be wider than an 8.25 in an earlier generation Dak. Width is determined more by the generation the rear is in, than the size of the ring gear.

Message: Were they still using the 8.25" in 2003? For some reason, that doesn't sound right. I would have thought a 2003 Quad Cab would have a 9.25" already.

Message: If that axle came equipped with
the factory 'trak-lok', take a look
inside to see if the retainer clips
haven't broken off,
common problem in the 9.25 with the "LSD" option.

Message: Will I feel a differance w/ 3.92 gears? Is the rear end a good buy if everything checks out?
