Subject: Turning over more than normal?
IP: Logged

Message:
My 2001 Dakota Quad SLT w/V8 has been turning over more times than normal lately to start? Normal was 1-2 turns. Now it like 3-5? After the morning start ...it fires up right away throughtout the day? I've had the truck since new and have had regular maintenance ...been a trouble free vehicle! Could it be the plugs? I bought a fuel additive the other day and the parts guy said to change fuel filter? Other threads on this forum have said that the fuel filters should be life-time...and they look like a pain to change. Any thoughts?

first... relax. second... its just the fuel pressure bleeding off. what do i mean? i mean when you shut the truck off, its supposed to hold pressure from the pump to the manifold, so that it starts right up. somewhere its bleeding off. its never gonna cause a problem. if you dont want to crank it so much just turn the igniton on for about 2 seconds before cranking it and the pump will build that pressure back up.

What jayb just posted is more than likely your
minor problem, greg. To *test* what he just
posted, do what he said, turn the igniton on but
don't try and start for a few seconds. If it
starts right up, you have a fuel bleed off
problem.

I'm guessing it will end up being your fuel pump
that's not holding the pressure. No biggie, yet.

Thanks jayb...the "2 second pause" has helped the starting. Fires right up. Must be some fuel line bleed-off like you mentioned. Thanks All!
