Subject: radio, lights quit working IP: Logged
Message: I own a 96 dakota with 155,000 miles on it, and its been a great truck with no major issues. Although, the other day I noticed that my radio, dome light, the light under the hood, and some other lights, wouldn't work. I have the electrical schematic of the truck and they are all linked to one fuse. The problem is that no fuses are blown. Is there a relay somewhere, that Im not seeing, that could go bad?

Message: You said all the fuses are OK. Not to be a smart aleck but do you have a Power Distribution Center under the hood near the battery, and if so did you check the fuses there? There are several fuses there for the lighter, horn, radio memory circuit and 12volt power outlet that are all part of the circuit that controls the radio and lights. Check every fuse associated with those components to rule out this possibility. If you find a blown fuse, replace it and see if the lights and radio work properly then. If the fuse blows again, try removing the radio and then replacing the fuse with the radio removed from the truck and see what happens. My guess would be a bad radio causing the fuse(s) to blow. Relays do not typically fail, and there are no relays in the radio/dome lamp circuit, to my knowledge.
Good luck with it.
