Message: Yea, and what tranny?
I just got a new oen cause it won't go into first gear sometimes starting out, then it doesn't want it downshifting! Damn RE44, didn't need that electronic shift!

Message: You most likely have a 46re trans. It is very hard to say exactly what is wrong but you could have something as simple as a failing solenoid. It sounds like the trans is going into "limp" mode. Pay exact attention to how the trans shifts. Sometimes it is almost transparent unless you REALLY pay attention. It depends on what gear the trans is trying to get into that can really help out pinpointing the problem. It is quite common for the governor pressure solenoid, pressure sensor and 3-4 shift solenoids to fail or plug up. These are relatively low cost items to replace. I would go to a reputable shop or dealer and have them check it out. Its worth the $50-100 to be sure.

Message: That is why AAMCO offers a free scan.
Any mechanic should be able to scan and discover what is wrong.
When my solenoids went out, bammo! I was out of gear and at 65 MPH that is downright exciting!
That is why I have 100 miles towing on AAA.
Unless you stay close to home, get it fixed.
And let us know if sam was right.
