Carfax is highly over rated; not everything gets reported to them. If something was badly damaged, a close look should reveal some signs of body work. If you're concerned about the accuracy of the milage, look to see if the rubber on the brake pedal has more wear than you'd ecpect for the milage. Pull the dipstick, baked on oil could indicate it wasn't well serviced. There's a lot we can do for ourselves that is more reliable than a carfax report.

DON'T BE A SUCKER THat THINKS CARFAX IS ALL KNOWING.
my daughters car has beed hit and repaired everywhere but one fender - it's not on carfax but CARMAX the dealership found it when I went and got a FREE appraisel

jody, most dealerships will pull up a carfax at no charge to you if you ask them, and you look interested in buying their vehicle.

Some only give the summary info to the customer, which just tells that it's not a salvage title. I just looked at a car with the summary pasted to it. I ran the full report at home and found the car came from CA new, to CT, and in the last 4 years has been moved to 4 different addresses in CT. I also found it has been for sale for 3 months, whereas it has been on craigslist for 1 month, where I found it. So it's not all-knowing, but it's useful. It will also tell if it's been a rental or fleet car.

Adding to the lust of check points..... There are one big bunch of cars right now that were in flooded areas and sat partly or totally under water for a time. Look underneath the car for excess rust. When you get in the car, make use of your nose. If it smells musty, it was in a flood. if the smell is not noticeable, go one step farther and get your nose as far as possible under the front seats. look under floor carpet and pull the rear seat bottom looking for rust, musty smell or anything else out of line. As a rule most resale guys clean or replace what you can see at a glance. Just keep in mind there are thousands of flood water autos for sale.

the problem is if u look at the driver side you can tell it's been repainted from the door back! (u can see over spray on the seals) but according to the seller its never been recked or painted just want to know the truth! so any help here would be appreciated

look at the title to see how long he had it.
go to carmax to a free appraisal if it really bugs you - it all comes down to price = carfax will not tell you about a repainted fender.
carfax puts out some good advertising about itself

Jody....... Who are you arguing with. There is only one answer and your doing your best to justify buying the truck. If you want it that bad, buy it. You are saying the truck has been repainted and the seller says everything is original. If the paint is noticeably bad, then the repairs are just as bad or worse. Don't walk, run away from the truck. The seller is a lier. The paint job says so. How can you possibly trust him.
