Message: Questions on Tires.
Have a 2002 that came with OEM 255 65R 16 tires. I'm looking to widen them a bit and purchase 275 60R 16. I have confirmation form the manufacture that they will fit from 7-9 inch wide rims. Total height is vitually identical so spedo error would be very minimal. My question is will the extra 20mm in width cause any clearance issues with the front tires when turning? Also, would the thicker tire cause more strain on the power steering system by having more tire in contact with the road?
Anyone put 275's on there ride?
Thanks!

Message: I have 275/60/17 on my Ram 1500 8 inch wide wheels,
you put a lot less strain on your power steering
by not cranking the wheel over too much when the truck is stopped at a standstill.
When parking, try to do most of the 'turning' when the truck is rolling either in fwd. or rev.
less strain on all the steering components

Message: Yep...point well taken, I think that would go for any size tire. Anyone with a Dakota have 275 and have clearance issues?

Message: I have a 2001 2wd Dakota that I bought used with 275 60R 17 tires and have no trouble with rubbing. Truck does not have any body or suspension lift. I have had no steering issues; I can only swear to the last 75,000 miles of the 130,000 on the truck but I think it is all original.

Message: Awesome...thanks dude...that's all I need to know. If you have no issues with a 17" rim, then I'll be good to go with a 16". My only question for you is: is the 17" a R/T rim? Or an aftermarket...just curious if it's aftermarket if it will have the same inset as a stock 16"

Message: Rim is definitly aftermarket; they look like they have the "right" backspacing but with the wider tire there is more sticking out of the fender than a stock tire so it is hard to be sure. I do think they look better wider.
