Hello,
I have a 93 dakota 6cyl 2wd that wont start. Was running fine then I shut if off to put air in tire. I hit the key and I hear nothing. And when I have the key in radio/accssry pos then back to off position, the radio still stays on. Even when I take key out which it didn't use to do. The night it happened, after trying to start it for awhile, I locked the steering wheel to see what it would do when I turned the key. I couldnt get the steering wheel unlocked. the tow truck drive finally did after messin with it for a while. first I thought it was ignition switch (the piece that the lock cylinder goes into). replaced it and that wasn't it. Took battery in to have tested, They said wouldnt hold charge so I got new one and that wasn't it. Took starter in to have tested, it was fine, I seen it work. thought maybe i got bad ignition switch from store so i exchanged the one I put on and still wasn't it. Months ago I was having problems with it stalling. Was told (and replaced) crank sensor but ended up being computer ecm (also replaced) haven't had a problem with it stalling since then. Don't know if thats related to my new problem. Sorry for the long novel. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.
Thanks
Pete

so the starter doesn't even engage? Is the starter solenoid part of the starter or separate? I don't know since I never had to replace one on my Dak. If separate that could be the problem. The starter may be good but the solenoid could be toast. another off cause could be a loose connection on the neutral safety switch. That happened to me on my old jeep. Stopped it and when went to restart a few minutes later I got nothing. replaced a lot of stuff, like stater, ignition switch, and coil before I found the connector had pulled off the switch which is on the tranny. At that time I never even know they had such a thing. saw it in the manual. Anyway, plugged it back in and voila! It started right up. Don't know where it is on the tranny with the Dodge, but wiggle it and see if it starts.
