Why do you want a 1987 modle Dakota in the first place? If you want something thats would fit the classic persona, then go for the 96 modle (318,5speed,CC,3:92.1) at lest you want complain about the power.

Here is some numbers for you guys out there with the Dakotas, In 1987 the 3.9 V6 produced 125 H.P., in 1991 when they added the 318 to the lineup the 318 came stock with 170 H.P.,in 1992 they changed the numbers the 3.9 V6 had 180 H.P., and the 318-had 230 H.P. not bad. but remember guys these are some good trucks, especailly for work, I live in Portage, WI,
and last summer drove a company Dakota, a 1991 to be exact, up to Black River Falls up by Menomonie to do a electrical service for a new subdivision and the truck cruised nicely, fairly good gas mileage, and I loaded up the back end of her and she still cruised.

They changed more than just the numbers in 1992, that was the introduction of the new magnum style motors.

also, 92 & 93 were the only 180hp years for the 3.9 because of larger exhaust manifolds.

The Magnum 318 back in '92 was rated at 220HP and 295ftlbs toruqe.
The V6 was about 185HP
It wasn't untill late 97 they gave the 318 just 10 more horses.
The 360 Magnum only had 245HP and the 03 modle had 300HP in the last R/T edition.
