Ok, so i know there are no factory tow hooks for the 00-02 dakotas. I know the 97-99 did have that as an option.

I have read many posts and websites about this subject and found that the early 2000's GM (sierra and silverado) full size truck tow hooks work, if you have a body lift. At this time, I do not have a body lift.

Has anyone tried to see why the 97-99 tow hooks will not fit on the 00-04? I think it's the little plastic piece that provides access to the oil filter that is in the way due the the front end suspension differences between the two generations.

the 90s GM trucks have tow hooks similar to those that are the option for the 97-99. I am going to pick up a pair of those hopefully tomorrow. Once I have those, I'm going to stop by a local fabricating shop and have them see what it would take to fab up a mounting plate to connect the tow hooks to and to connect to the frame of my 02 QC. I'm thinking a similar design to the 97-99 dakotas.

If the cost is not too outrageous, would any of you 00-04 owners be interested in this tow hook assembly? I could ask about a group discount.

The plastic piece for the oil access isn't the problem. It our bumpers, the tow hook would have to be put through it in order for it to fit. By having a body lift it gives more access to the frame, which the gm tow hooks bolt to. I forget where the gm hooks and up sitting with the body lift, but I think its under the air dam. calikota have you seen the factory tow hooks from the 97-99 dakotas? the mounting bracket is angled down so the tow hooks are exposed under the bumper. I don't see why dodge couldn't do that for the 00-04. this is what I'm looking at having fabbed up.

Bolt to the frame, angle it down with a place to mount the tow hooks out of factory cutouts in the airdam and put a brace between both sides for support/rigidity.

I was trying to get at that the gm tow hooks that everyone is talking about probably wont work good with the application that your trying to do.
I also don't see why the older factory tow hook set up wouldn't work on our newer trucks. The old skid plate plans seem to work fine with a little modification. I'm thinking that no one has tried the older tow hooks because dodge prob. isn't making them anymore so the cost and avaliability is making it difficult to come across these hooks.

So yeah I'd be interested if you were able to fab something up. Because my set up works, but I have bent my drop brackets will getting towed.

I was able to upload tow hook pics to cardomain, so check out the above link. There are some pics of one of the gm tow hooks people are talking about.

I can't seem to find anyone that has the factory tow hooks. Noone I know with dakota's have them and i can't find a single dakota in any of the salvage yards around here.

I am looking at the older factory gm towhooks (from 90s full size) which are very similar to the 97-99 dakota factory tow hooks.

similar to this:

Those look like the dodge factory tow hooks that you posted earlier.
Good luck and keep us posted if you come up with anything.

You know if any truck needs tow hooks, it should be a 2x4! because there always gets stuck in the yard when it comes a rain.

What about Gen 2's. Did they come as options?

Exactly STS...what do you need front tow hooks for...just turn around and use your hitch to pull em out haha

I didn't even know that the 97-99 have an option tow hooks, where do they bolt to, under the bumper? I've see dakotas with holes in the bumper for them...i thought those were the newer ones than 99

To see what the 97-99 tow hooks look like, check out this link I posted earlier.

http://www.zracer.com/dakota_tow_hooks.htm

As to why i need tow hooks? I don't need them, i want them. Why do i want them? Because very few 00-04 dakotas have them and they look cool. And there's a few places I go fishing at where the trails are very tight and you can't turn around without driving backwards for a good distance.

There's one location not too far from home where I go fishing that has lots of narrow trails. I take some of these back to ponds to do some bass fishing. People going back to do trout fishing sometimes get lost and make wrong turns and get hung up in cars. Yep, they take cars places I would not even consider it. Places where my skid plates come in handy.

I'm stopping by a salvage yard that says they have to tow hooks tomorrow then I'm stopping by the fab shop to have them take a look and what can be done.

I think you are correct, seems the 99 and older don't even have a spot in the bumper for tow hooks. I have an 02 QC, there are spots in the bumper for tow hooks. Weird how they weren't an option. This link shows what I am talking about in the front bumper

If you look at the link in my post, you can see how the factory tow hooks mounted on the 97-99 ones.

I picked up a set of tow hooks from a late 80s S-10 Blazer, not exactly the ones I was looking for but there were there, so i'm got them. They were rusty but after an hour with the dremel, they are very nice indeed.

Unless something else pops up, i'm going to the shop tomorrow to see what we can be fabbed up.

Dan M...could you get those hooks right off the factory line? You didn't mock those up to work on your truck?
