Subject: '92 Dakota to an '06 Dakota. IP: Logged
Message: Hi all
I've had a '92 Dakota standard cab (3.9 LE with a five speed) since it was new back in January of '92. I intended to keep it forever and it appears that it'll keep running that long. The trouble is my kids don't fit anymore, they're tired of getting a gearshift knob in the kneecap.
I've done a lot of research on a replacement vehicle (SUV, small car, big truck) and I keep coming around to the fact that I need a truck and love the size and utility of the Dakota Quad Cab. I found a 2006 2WD with a 4.7 (and a cool Ipod input jack) but know little about the new Dakotas.
What can I expect from it?? MPG? power? issues?
Thanks,
Matt

Message: not bad on the power, gas mileage isnt good. in 2wd form you might hit 19 of your a easy driver. i havent heard alot of issues with the new dakotas, just a few minor annoyances. but your eyes might hurt from looking at it.
If i was you, i would go for the one with the best price and warranty.

Message: I just bought a new 2006 Dakota. It is a 4 person cab with 4 side doors. The rear seats are considered 40%. The front door must be opened to open the back door. I love the truck. I have had it about 3 weeks. There is some torque converter noise when accelerating at low speeds. I checked it out with the dealer and they said that is normal.
I am getting 14 mpg city. That is in very cold weather with some warm up. The truck came equipped with a towing package, power driver's seat, radio, cd player, 467 v8 engine. Total price excluding tags and tax 16,300

Message: Matt, why not convert it to an automatic? LOTS cheaper than a new vehicle, and the 92s are more reliable and durable.

Message: I saw a Nissan 4 dr pickup today. Large back doors - crew cab I guess. Would be great for kids or adults. Didn't see the inside but I thought the outside styling looked better than the new Dakota. Anyone have a Nissan? What kind of power plant do they use?

Message: Thanks all,
I took the (used) Dakota out for a couple of hours and something wasn't right with the front suspenders. Medium sized interstate bumps seemed to telegraph from the front suspension through the truck and out the back. Then the salesman grew white shoes and got manipulative so I walked out.
I bought a 2006 Tundra SR5 4X4 and all is good.
My Dakota is going on Craigslist tomorrow. It has served me well but it's time to go.
Thanks again, this list is a great resource that I've used many times for odd stuff.
