93 5.2 liter V8 2wd, can you convert to 4wd or would all the modifications necessary make it too much of a hassle to deal with? If not what all is involved, thanks for any info.

While nothing is impossible I would say that at the very least it would cost you way more to convert than it would cost you to buy a good used 4wd Dakota. I've been watching some 92-95 Dakotas on e-bay and you could pick one up for around $2000. The cost of parts and the need to change pretty much everything except the cab and bed would make this swap very expensive.
