Message: lets say hypothetically that i have a Superchips programmer and i wanted to "cheat" the odometer my programming my truck to have alot larger tires than i actually do have so that the computer thinks the truck is traveling slower than it is and not going as far... has anyone tries this? adverse effects?

Message: Have you sat down to do the calculations on how much further you would be traveling with a larger tire compared to stock? You really wouldn't be "cheating" your odometer enough to make that huge of a difference to make it worth your while. The size difference you would need for what you're going after is gonna be huge...have fun guessing how fast your really going unless you just want to stare at your tacometer all the time.

Message: 2" larger saves 5 miles for every 100 traveled
or at least about what it came out to on my dakota when i went from 28 to 30
and on my 3500 went from 265 to 285
one inch diff and its off 2.5 miles for every hundred

Kind of foolish to throw off your reading. You won't get maintenance done on schedule if it's recording fewer miles. So you'd be neglecting your truck by going more miles between service.

Message: you could just switch the gauge clusters. my 98 sport came with that big ugly fuel gauge, instead of a tach. i went to the junkyard and pulled a cluster with the tach from the same year truck. everything worked, but the odometer reading from the junk truck stayed with the cluster. unfortunately, the junk truck odometer read 163,000 miles, and my truck only had 92,000 on it, so it worked the wrong way for me.

Message: On certain years if say a fuse blows, the odometer stops increasing mileage. Of course other non essential things stop working as well.

Message: My calculations: 31" tire X pi (3.14) = 97.34"
33" tire x pi = 103.62".....Therefore there is an increase of 6.45% when you increase your tires from 31's to 33's.
Now the way I see it, odometers should not tell distance, but rather rotations. If my truck tires rotate the same amount of times as yours, but my tires are bigger therefore I travel farther, why should I be penalized?
