Around 30 miles into today's courier work, the brake light came on. Quick! check the parking brake, then pull off the freeway to check other stuff. Told my dispatcher bye-bye and drove to my mechanic. Near the freeway exit, about 50 miles into this adventure, the anti-lock brake warning light lit-up.

We checked and, the fluid level was level, the alternator alternated and the battery passed a load test.
But, his Snap-On Professional Mechanic's Scanner refused to talk with my trucks computer.

I could buy a OBM II scanner, but what if it won't talk to my truck either? I'd be out $75.00.
The Dodge Boys want $117.60 to do a complete scan with a written report, but I'm cheap.

Your good advice, is need now.

DonPilot is right on the money. Buy the part and put it on yourself. Takes about 5 mins.

And,

Auto Zone scans your vehicle for free, right there.

Actually, Texas Todd, Auto Zone can't do it in Caleefornia, the owner told me.
What they do is sell a scanner, then you return it.
He also said his scanner wouldn't work, I need a 'dedicated' brake scanner.

I'm leaning toward parting with $40.00.

Thanks, guys.

that autozone owner was talking out of his ass, at least with the dedicated brake scanner part. any OBD2 reader can scan a brake code. and before just replacing the sensor, it may be worth it to get the code read in case its a serious problem or a minor one that can turn into a serious problem.

When you get old, you tend to resist change.
The nut laughed at penetrating oil.

My mechanic had to step-up to the medium size impact wrench to finally convince it to let us change the sensor.
A check with the meter proved that it had passed on to the great junkyard in the sky.

We popped the cover, cleaned up the differential and installed new, what else, Amsoil.

To the Dodge Boys for the sensor, $43.60. To the man with the proper tools, $110.00. Not having to lie on the ground, priceless!

Thank you all, very much, for the timely, accurate diagnosis.
