Subject: Brake problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1997 2wheel drive Dakota. This past summer I had both rear wheel cylinders replaced, along with brake shoes and brake hardware. The brakes made noise because the shop did not(could not)resurface the drums. So I had new drums put on. Still made even more noise. I took the drum off and seen the brake shoe cracked, so I went back and they replaced the shoes and a self adjusting cable. I drove it a week or so, finally had quite rear brakes that work. 2 weeks later rear brake noise is back, and my right rear tire is locking up when I put a little extra pressure on the brakes. And the abs sometimes seems to be working a little to soon,Im not doing a "panic stop" and its engageing. Took it back again, they backed of the adjustment and said everything is working and looked fine. The problem continues.

Message: There is a front and rear shoe. Sounds like there installed wrong. Front in the back and back in the front. The difference is,one has more material then the other. Also the spreader bar may be positioned wrong or there not the right shoes. Parts books are not always correct. Try a qualified brake shop.
