As I have read here before on rear-ends(limited slip), mine was making squealing sounds when making turns. Went to the dealer to have it checked out ( 34,000 miles) they said the fluid was burnt and was not covered under warranty because it was a service issue. Is this true, I felt like I got screwed, and ended up paying for it. I have had numerous posi-trac type rear-ends and never had this type of problem before.
Thanks

Sounds just like mine. No the diff. is fine now. I just can't believe that the rear-end fluid has to be changed that frequently. First they (the dealer) told me that the rear had "break-in fluid in it", bullsh*t.Must be sh*tty stuff that Dodge uses.

Hey Swampdak, Good to here it solved your problem. How many miles do you have on it? Did the dealer do it? How much? I paid 89.99 here in Houston at a BullSH*T 5 star dealer where I bought it.
I Think that Dodge left out the friction modifier(which I stated to the dealer under warr.) At the end of the 4 hour wait they tryed to charge me $99.99 for it. What Assw!pes at GOODSON DODGE.
They even put a sticker on my reciept that said if I could not give them a totally satisfact. rating then calll the service manager (who is an Ahole)
Sorry to vent.

Hosed they charged me $80.00 canadian, they were suprised as I dont tow trailers alot but they dont know I was running it at the strip and the odd street drag.I think the bit of hot rodding I have been doing may have burnt the gear lube.I have 45000 mi. on my truck.I am getting zero noise from rearend now, and thats a big load off my mind thanks again.

Gentlemen,
I have had a growling noise in the rear end of my 2000 SLT quad cab four different times now; first two times they added an additive, third time changed fluid, and fourth time changed out the entire rear end. I do have a LSD with a 3.55 ratio rear end. The noise usually occurs after having driven at highway speeds for at least 1/2 hour, then come to an intersection(stop sign or signal light) where I have to wait at least 20 seconds; then taking a turn on either right or left I get a serious growling noise for about 1 to 2 seconds. I am taking it back this week for the fifth and final time as I have written DC on the lemon law our state has for excessive repair of the same item. Will keep all informed of this fix, or new vehicle.

I haven't had any noise coming from my rearend (except when gassy), but when I went just over 30,000 miles on dino fluid, I finally took it in for synthetic and was informed it had significantly "broken down" (the fluid, not the rearend) and that it should be changed every 15,000 miles. You can bet I'll be doing that from now on. Had the manual tranny fluid changed, too, and it was "dirty, but okay". Think I'll start doing it every 15K as well - just to be safe.

I just got my mopar chrome diff the other day. I removed the factory diff cover and drained the fluid from the rear carrier. when it had all drained, there were a bunch of metal chunks sitting in the bottom! not just filings, but big pieces. they look like they're part of a disc because they're rounded a have grooves. are these part of the clutches in the limited slip or something else... anyone know?? i'm taking it in to my dealer tomorrow to get checked out but the dealer where i live absolutely sucks! i'll be surprised if they figure out what it is... and if they do it will take them forever to fix, and it will just fall apart again. bastards
