Subject: FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM
IP: Logged

Message:
Had a problem with my front brake pulling to the right. Got to looking at it and found out that the bottom caliper bolt was stripped out on the hub/spindle. Went to my Brakeman and he said this is a major problem with all Dodge trucks and Jeeps, and has done quite a few. The only way to fix it is with helicoil (if hole not ovaled out) or replace the Hub/spindle. And he also said that he had just done a truck, all four caliper bolts, because the Hub/spindle is on Factory BACK ORDER. Sounds like a big problem, Has anybody else had this problem? shall we let the factory know?

I read about it here occasionally, but not real often. Helicoil will work just fine. The pins are stressed in shear, not tension.

Let DC know? Do you think they would care? Look what it took to get the ball joints fixed.

Here I am being stupid again. Parts store possibly misinformed me. Adding helicoils to secure caliper on front brake of 95 Dakota. Parts store sold me 3/8-16 helicoils which are not going into the hole. How large should the hole be tapped to? It seems to accommodate the helicoil it would have to be much larger than it is.

Maybe the threads were stripped during maintenance.

i have the same problem with the spindels being stripped by the caliper bolts. I tightened them down one day and pulled the threads right out. gotta love it.

Probably because you exceeded the torque specs.
