The 75,000 Mile Oil Change

Documented in 1978 in SAE Paper 780951 by D.B. Barton, J.A. Murphy and K.W. Gardner, “Synthesized Lubricants Provide Exceptional Extended Drain Passenger Car Performance”, whereby they drove 75,000 miles for three years with no oil change and no engine damage.

How It Was Done? SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL!

Long drain capabilities of synthetic oils are well established. Of course we do not recommend three-year drain intervals today, but Amsoil does recommend oil change intervals of 2 to 3 times manufacturers recommendations (maximum 1 year or 25,000 miles). We offer a 1 year or 25,000 mile Amsoil Oil Filter also.

PROOF as documented in SAE Paper 780951.

"
I started my new motor out on Valvolibe 40# racing oil and at 30 hours
switched to Amzoil 40#. After less then 10 hours the distributor drive
gear destroyed itself. I called Amzoil and the tech there admitted the
poor high load carrying capacity their synthetic oils have has caused
that same failure in lots of engines. I am back on Valvoline and all is
running well. For what is is worth the syn oil did run about 15 degrees
cooler then the petroleum oil does. "

and go past that read the whole board!

"I'd never use synthetic during initial break-in, but I can't believe it
caused the problem you experienced, although, I'll admit to using only
Mobil 1. I've never been an AMSOIL fan, but that is based admittedly on
the fact that I find their marketing so "over the top" that it causes me
to also mistrust anything else they claim.

You jerk! I didn't see you complain when some fool posted that Mobil 1 is no longer a true synthetic. Which no one has provided any fact to that. You're nothing but a salesman, that for some reason people on this site listen to you like the gospel. What's your automotive qualifications? I would guess none.

TRUE - Amsoil does not own refineries. We are a "blender" just like Redline and Royal Purple and many other speciality oil companies. We use our own "proprietary" formulations to create a superior oil.

A comparable example:

All beer is made from a combination of water, yeast, malt and hops - YET - they all have different characteristics and tastes.

Some beers taste like horse pee ... others delicious.

How many beer companies produce their own water, yeast, malt and hops? Most buy the raw ingredients and "blend", boil, ferment, package, and distribute their own "proprietary" product.

It's the same concept.

in all honesty, Amsoil may, or may not be better than say mobil 1, or any other synthetic. but assumeing its at least as good if not better, they should make it a better price if they really want it to sell. I believe everything you say about synthetic oils. i dont believe Amsoil is any better than any other good company.
Havent seen any proof to lead its any better.

It's the same with gasoline. It's all refined the same and is the same until the proprietary additives are put in.

There are only so many refiners of oil to make gasoline. Here is GA there are places like Quick Trip and Race Trac that buy gas from the refiners and then you have places like BP, Shell and Exxon that refine.

Synthetic OR dino, if oil is doing it's job
keeping the engine clean plus a good filter
*holding* the large *chucks* from re-entering the
system, you're nuts to think using a product that
says it's good for 5k or more is the best thing
for your engine.

It's a selling gimmick guys!

Change your oil and filter at 3k and be done with
it, PERIOD! And if you do that, dino the best!
Why, the price!

Regarding your comment "doing it's job".

That suggests a MINIMUM standard. Why settle for a minimum?

Synthetic motor oils and lubricants are made from molecularly uniform liquid natural gas, and protect your engine and moving parts better than Non-Synthetic lubricants which are made from crude oil (a non-uniform molecular structure).

With Synthetic's you get less wear and tear, better performance and better gas mileage, and you are helping to protect a valuable resource (oil) with extended drains.

The 3,000 mile oil change is as out of sync as my grandfather. Everyone has read the automotive magazine articles that state that the "3,000 mile oil change" is a myth perpetrated by BIG OIL and the Quickie Lubes.

Typical ignorance. Its a fact that synthetic is better for your engine. its also proven that it will last longer making longer change intervals. so in the end i think i pay less.

some of it has to do with engine quality as well

many of the million mile cummins were run on regular 15w-40 dino oil
its just a high quality engine

also, do you know how long you can run a slant 6 with NO oil,
you will be there a while waiting for it to sieze
