Subject: Bad Dealer Experiences - Sales IP: Logged
Message: Ok let's have it, bad dealers sales experiences.
Is it just me? Or are Dodge Dealers all over trying to screw people and hiring sales staff who are complete idiots? I'm not talking servicing a vehicle, but in trying to purchase a new one. And I'm not being unreasonable in asking price since I know a dealer won't sell a car at a loss or for an unreasonable amount.
Woodstock Dodge - Woodstock GA
Michael - sales manager told me :
1. he didn't have time for me
i called him at 8:30, dealership closed at 9. I was off the phone with him in 5 minutes.
2. He told me I was being too demanding
He wasn't offering more than 500 off MSRP other than discounts dodge was offering (2k for 06 and 1k for 06 being on lot a long time), I asked for more than 3500 off.
3. He told me it was a retail environment, he did NOT have to sell me a car.
4. He told me being a repeat dodge owner meant nothing to him.
Palmer Dodge - Roswell GA
Jay - sales manager
- wouldn't anser questions truthfully/completely until asked several times. Simple questions like why is the auto dimming rear view mirror only available in the magnum SRT8 and not any other model (his answer - finally - was the factory wiring harness on the mirror would not plug into the wiring harness of the magnum except that of the SRT8)
06 magnum listed at 34k with 4k aftermarket rims. Sales guy told me he would swap rims with another magnum on the lot. There was a 6500 off sticker on the front windshield. I thought 34000 (MSRP)- 4000 (aftermarket rims) + 400 (dodge rims) - 65500 (listed discount) = 23900 right?? WRONG! Jay said he couldn't take the 6500 discount off the MSRP of 34000 on the magnum, he would take the MSRP (34000) discount it the dealers cost (2400) of the aftermarket rims (4k MSRP) and take the 6500 from that. Thus 34000 - 2400 + 400 - 6500 = 25,500. So that means i'm paying dealer cost for rims i'm not getting. @#$$ THAT!
See my post on - no new dodge for me.

I know you have already solved your vehicle problem, but next time consider trying Hayes Chrysler in Lawrenceville.

Message: Dan, the auto-dimming mirror is avail in the SXT-RT & SRT8 models when you order the U-Connect pkg. the sales manager as most dealer employees dosen't know his product. you would think they would read about the cars they sell instead of spending all day on their cellphone bs-ing. He could've looked that up on his computer in about 2secs while he was talking to you instead of making up a story. I'm from NJ and the quality of dealership employees is no better here. mostly because of most dealerships refusal to pay for good people. but thats a different topic for another day

Message: I did call hayes, they didn't have any vehicles in stock that I was interested in based on options and what my wife wanted and required (she recently hurt her back and heated seats are a must). Most dealers in my 11 dealer excustion didn't have 3.5L v6 magnums. I went as far as calling dealers in north GA, TN and NC based on dodge.com searches. Hayes was #3 on my list. My 02 dakota i bought used came with the original window sticker in the owners manual and came from hayes.
The sales manager at palmer didn't look anything up, I asked the sales guy at cherokee county who worked with the sales manager, i can't verify if he did look anything up or not.
That's a good piece of information about the uconnect package.
in my experience the sales guys have been better/more friendly overall than sales managers.

Message: Have not had good experiences at dealers myself. They will lie, cheat, and steal if it means making a profit, and frankly, that's what they are there for, to make a living off us. Also salesmen don't seem to stay very long. They are there one day and gone the next, although there are exceptions. Years ago the salesmen's reputation meant a lot. Where I bought my 1st truck, my salesman had a great reputation for helping the customers and honesty. When people went to buy a car as a repeat customer, they all asked for him. He was there for many years selling cars. Today if they screw you they won't care because they will be gone tomarrow and the dealer's reputation means nothing to them. The next car or truck I buy will probably be from an auto broker. they give you a best price and no haggling. You will wind up paying less. A word of advice, get an extended warranty. I did and was so glad I did, as I've had numerous problems with my low mileage Dakota. Saved way more than the price of the warranty.

Message: The availablility of the auto dimmer is dependent of the vehicle model. The dakota and ram both have it available on all models i believe, I have not looked at every one to verify though.
Even the 06 magnum book has the autodimmer available only for the SRT8 as does the auto configuration pricing tool on dodge.com

Message: Dan M if you order the U-connect pkg the auto dimmer mirror comes with it as it's part of the mirror assembly, the only model it isnt avail on is the base Magnum SE. Little jer when you Lie,cheat &steal to sell someone a car it's called fraud & deceptive sales practice which are both Illegal. The number 1 reason this happens more today than it ever did is everybody knows what price the dealer pays for their cars, in no other business i know of do the customers know what the seller paid for his product. So the dealers haf to find ways to increase profit.Have you noticed there're very few adult salesmen in dealers today, mostly kids with an adult sales manager in charge. Real salesmen cant afford to work in dealers today and support a normal family.

Message: I would agree with the making a living part. If I found an honest saleman and found i got a good deal I would certainly go back to that salesman or dealer if I bought one again. Thge salesmen don't make that much on avehicle and must split the profit several ways. If they can jack up the price or with smoke and mirrors make more money on the deal they will. And they can do it legally, just like these payday loanmakers do. It's a rip off, but they will always find someone whose credit is bad and will take the deal even if they have to wind up paying more. We won't even get into what a rip off a car lease can be.

Message: My father just purchased a NEW 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4wd 4door Cummins Diesel or that's what he thought. The truck was advertised to have just under 500 miles. It was supposedly a demo. It HAD NEVER BEEN TITLED. He paid $33K which was an outstanding deal or so he thought. He signed the bill of sail and they brought him the title and the odometer closer statement. Both the odometer statement and the bill of sale said 498 miles. They handed him the title and it said 28,000 miles. The dealer didn't catch the booboo and tried to lie to cover it up. The title had been signed on the back 4 different times by 4 different dealers from 3 different states. It was orginally title to a dealer in Illinois in Feb'06. Then it traded hands to a dealer in Nashville, TN. Then it traded hands to a USED CAR DEALER in N.W. Arkansas. Then it traded hands again to a new car dealer in Central Arkansas. That's where my father purchased the truck on Dec. 4, 2006. They forgot to send in for the new title and therefore all this information was on it. It would have been easy for them to get the title fixed to say 500 miles and they even offered to have this service done. My dad refused and is currently in the middle of a law suit.
So, just because you are buying a new truck from a new truck dealer doesn't mean you're safe anymore. Your only safe bet for buying a vehicle without the odometer roled back is ordering the vehicle from the factory.

Message: I'm sorry for the ordeal you and your father are going through that totally sucks. let me ask you a cpl of questions. was this car really new or used? or was it an auction car. can you give me the VIN number? and when you get a car from Daimler/Chrysler you get what is called an C of O (certificate of origin) not a title this is given to motor vechicle when you buy the vechicle and turns into a title when your name is put on it. the owner never signs a C of O the car is in chryslers name until sold unless the dealer buys his cars cash. thats one of the major problems in buying auction cars when the vechicles cross state lines titles can get washed and milage disappears because rules in every state are different. Here in NJ it takes 30 days to flip an out of state title they check it first to see if its an fire/theft/salvage from its home state only new cars from other states with an C of O can transfer same day. This has saved many a dealer and buyer tons of grief. I would like the VIN to your truck if you want to send it to me i can run it in Chryslers database and find its history

Message: parts manager,
I can get the vin# from my dad. He has all the paper work and still has the truck. It has remained parked in his driveway since he bought it. The truck was obviously used. They roled the miles back and sold it to him as a new/demo. He wasn't supposed to ever see the title. They had a new lady working there and she accidently slipped the title in the paperwork. When buying a used car in Arkasas you just sign the back of the title and it's just like a bill of sale. You take the old title to the revenue office and they send it to the leanholder if it's financed. They send you a new title if you pay cash. She was unaware of her bosses crooked ways. She thought she was making a used car deal and handed my father the title. The owner of the dealership fired her the next day. We found that out through the lawyer. The truck had never been registered. All 4 dealers signed the back of the title and hung their dealer tags on the bumper and drove the hell out of it. This is a major scam that is going on all across the state of Arkansas and probably other states. The state of AR changed the laws back in 1996 and made it virtually impossible to track the miles on a new/used car. Unless you go to the dealer for service work the miles are never documented from the day you drive it off the lot. Before 1996, every registerd vehicle in the state of AR got the miles documented by a state inspection facility. Now all that is gone and the crooks have come to this state from all across the country to cash in on the opportunity to SCREW everyone they sell a car to.
I got screwed too in 1999. I bought a used Ford Taurus that CARFAXED at 88K miles 4 years before I bought it. It came from North Carolina and I bought it in Arkansas. They sold it to me with 40K miles and told me it was a local trade. I was ignorant at the time about all this crooked dealing and had never heard of carfax. Now I know better. But who would of thought you could fall victim to this buying a new vehicle? My dad made fun of me for falling victum to this scam 7 years ago and now I get to laugh at him.

Message: what mileage shows on the speedo now? There is a way to find the true mileage on Daimler/Chrysler vechicles that involves using a factory scan tool which i wont go into on here as i have caught many a odometer rollback at my dealership. this included lease returns/used cars/and warranty scammer people sadly many dealership techs dont evem know about it. its not totally 100% but damn close. i'm very surprised the State Police didn't get involved or the FBI because the crimes crossed state lines

Message: Dan,
Why don't you try ordering the vehicle you want?
There are dealers that will do it for ionvoice, + any factory discounts.
I did this on my 01 QC dak. I wanted such a mix of options like SLT, 4.7 manual, two tone paint, trailer towing, tire and handling, etc. that they had to order it.
I simply ordered, and got exactly what I wanted.
I did my build sheet, with invoice pricing on edmunds.com.

Message: Rolling back the odometer is a violation of federal law isn't it? I don't think your father has anything to worry about in a lawsuit if the odometer was rolled back.
I did look into ordering an new 07 but the price was not where it could have been. My wife wasn't set on a dodge and I had no problems with walking away from what I thought was not a good enough deal. There are just too many other vehicles offering discounts on comparable vehicles and with longer warranties. For me, the dodge dealers were not competitive enough.

Message: Todd,
I'm probably wrong, but I tried exactly what you said and just order a new vehicle back in 2002. I could not get any of the factory or dealer incintives/rebates this way. For a 2002 Dakota it ment I was going to pay around $4K more for a Dakota. That's what the dealer told me anyway. I probably got SCREWED again. I'm sure they were lying.
Dan M.
I thought it was a Fed. law also. A lawyer I went to High School with told me that the BBB was supposed to handle these cases. However, he said the BBB had failed to win an odometer/title fraud case in 15 years. When I got taken by a reputable Ford Dealer all I got was my money back and the lawyer fees. My lawyer called the ford dealer and they imediately gave me my money back. The dealer we are dealing with today isn't intimidated by any of our threats to sue.

Message: When the dealer filled out the buyers order did they mark the vechicle new or used? do you have the advertisement showing the mileage and vin number of your truck in the ad? I would call the division of motor vechicles in your state and explain the situation to them and see how they could help. Was the title they showed you in the dealers name? or was their stamp on the back? if not they can be accused of jumping title which automatically voids the sale. Also it wouldn't hurt to call Chrysler headquarters and see how the corporation feels about one of their dealers selling used vechicles as new. this usually results in Chrysler starting a sales/warranty audit of the stores rebates and warranty claim practices. If they rob their customers imagine how the dealer rips off chrysler on its rebates and warranty claims. people forget Chrysler is every dealers biggest customer and trusts its dealers to submit truthful claims to them.

Message: A dealer would rather you buy a vehicle off it's lot than ordering one if at all possible. They have to finance the cars on their lots (unless they are able to pay cash for them from the maker which isn't likely for large dealerships with hundreds of cars). They can make more money off the floor than by ordering. An honest GMC dealer salesman where I bought a S-15 pu told me they had two pricebooks. One for the showroom floor models, and one if you placed an order. the prices for ordering were lower being as they didn't have to floor ( finance ) the truck. A dealer will always tell you they can give you a better deal off the lot, mainly because they have money tied up in it, but you can usually order one for less than their best deal. Of course there are exceptions, like end of year clearances and things like that where the new models are coming out and they need to get rid of the dead weight ( like you selling your old house so you can buy your new one - you wouldn't want to be making 2 mortgage payments, and they don't either)
