Message: It shouldn't - the original poster was asking for info about trucks with 4.7; and should be aware the early ones are about as powerful as the later ones - despite what anyone with a different engine might wrongly imply.

Message: I had a 2000 Club Cab Dak, 4.7 eng, 45RFE auto trans, 3.55 rearend and now have a 2003 Quad Cab Dak, 4.7 eng, 545RFE auto trans, 3.55 rearend. From my personal experience of driving the 2000 CC 80,000 miles compared to driving the 2003 QC 60,000 miles;
- I didn't notice 03 being more powerful than the 00, they seemed about the same to me during normal driving and towing.
- The 00 got better mileage than the 03, I think the 45FRE trans had the truck in powerband at cruise better than the 03's 545RFE, 45RFE & 3.55 gears = 2450 RPM compared 545RFE and 3.55 gears = 2100RPM. The 4-500# weight difference has a bit to do with it, but I think the main differance is the RPM the engine is turning at cruise.
- The 00 maintained high speed better than the 03 going up hills without downshifting, once again the difference between the 45RFE and 545RFE and the RPM of the engine at cruise. When the 545RFE drops out of OD at high speeds, most of the time it's dropping into 3rd, not 4th gear. Seems that the 45RFE would hold OD better than the 545RFE, 45RFE holding OD 4th, 545RFE holing OD 5th.
Which truck was more efficient? 2000 CC
Which truck would I rather have? 2003 QC, Kinda' tough hauling around wife and 2 kids in the CC. plus the brakes on the 00 were horrid for towing.
Question I have for the 5.9 crowd, what is your mileage?
The 2000 CC got 18-20MPG highway and the 2003 QC gets 17-19 MPG highway, both trucks towing 3000# 10-11MPG.
I thought the 5.9's got 14-16MPG highway.

Message: And I don't think the Gas millage has changed that much either.
But they did indeed make more powerfull versions (265 HP and 330ftlbs) for jeep modles. Its a shame you don't get that for the Dodge trucks.
