Hm, alright. So I live in BC, I have a 92 dodge dakota that I use every so often to pick things up. We had a pretty bad cold snap here and I didnt even think about plugging it in. Now I have water pouring out of the bottom part of the engine. My thoughts are a cracked block, but I cant see anything because it is right behind the starter that the water is coming from. Its coming out pretty quick.

Is there anything else that it could be? Or no?

Also, how much would something like this cost to fix?

Thanks so much. :)

It might just be a freeze plug.
If that is all it is it will be pretty cheap if it is the block than it will be pretty expensive.

ya man
i lived in AK for 4 yrs
made the same mistake a few times actually

hope your as lucky as i was

2 freeze plugs on each motor
and no block trouble
follow that leak and find out for sure
worst part is changing the ones under the ex. manifolds but a whole lot better then a new motor or truck
best of luck to ya

Hmmmm, ok then, that would make me extremely happy. Thanks for the help.

How would I know if its the freeze plugs? I just cannot see where its coming from. It seems like its right behind the starter, would I have to remove the starter to check it out? Or would I just be better off to take it to a mechanic?

Wow....what a pain in the ass that was.

Ok. So I see a hole right behind the starter. Is that the freeze plug (or expansion plug?)?

If so, all I have to do is buy a new plug and pop it in?

Thanks.

Alright, Im back again, ok, so I replaced the freeze plug, fixed the block heater in the other freeze plug, and found that my water pump was leaking.....so I open it up and the main gear that pushes the water around seems to be broken off of the fan.

I had a mechanic fix (and I THOUGHT) replace the pump not very long ago.....what could cause a water pump to break like that? It looked pretty severe....if it ran dry and was turning, would that do it? I am fairly certain its a new pump.... and I am correct, right? I mean the pump is broken with the gear no longer on the main case?

Thanks for any help!

Joe
