To the level headed guys.....I was wanting to know because i'm about to switch to synthetic. Since when was Mobil 1 declared a non-synthetic....I can't find anything on google for it. I was just wanting to know what you guys run in your 5.2's.

Why do you think every answer you seek is on google?
Steve Roark (the amsoil dealer) has been posting on this site sine 2002 (4 years). If you don't trust his opinion by now why is he wasting his advertising dollars?

Message: hi Chris
Redline, royal purple
(aval at local speed and performance shops)
easy store bought
other then M1
Valvoline
Penzoil
Gastrol
to name a few
all above mentioned make syn oils
and also above mentioned are great in dino forms
take your pick
pick the one you think is best for you
2 most important things
#1 just change regularly
#2 run the grade/weight recomended
for your vehicle and climate/temps
also
if going for extened life syn oils keep in mind the filters really shouldnt be used that long
(i run M1 and not telling you too)
just an example of my route.
i run the oil for 5,000 however at 2,500 i change the filter and top it off

Message: I also am running Mobil 1 EP SYN . And NOT telling you to either. But I will say DO NOT use FRAM FILTERS or any rebadged fram sold under other names. Use a good filter of your choice. There is lots of oil and filter info on google. Just type in OIL FORUMS or FILTER FORUMS.

Message: I have been running Castrol GTX 10w30 but i'm going to switch to a synthetic. I'm pushing toward Mobil 1 even though Amsoil is getting excellent reviews everywhere. Is this just a scam? Their oil is like 9.99 a quart....that would cost me nearly 2x as much as using Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1, etc. So all-in-all Mobil 1 Synthetic is a lot better than GTX 10w30, right?
Thanks.

FIRST ONE ON PAGE!!! That's the CHEAPEST they offer. One I saw was 9.99 a quart on another type of Synthetic Motor Oil.

Message: Myself I use MOBIL 1 filters. There best one. I can not buy them anywhere around here or even in the state so I order them from California. There pricey, about 12 bucks each. This is a choice made by me because I do one oil change per year in the spring and it amounts to 7,500 miles or close. I average 2 or 3 250 mile trips per month, all to the same place so contaminates are keep under control. My oil looks almost new at change time so Im pleased with my system, oil and filters. Wix are less then half the price and a very good filter. K & N's top of the line is also good in my book purolater is another. There are several good filters. Only sujestion I'll make here is to pick your oil and filter to match your style of services intended. If you diviate from that, go with better then needed. Good luck

Message: It is sad, but that's why this thread sux. A free exchange of info is what makes this site great; just skip over stuff posted by idiots if it bothers you. Or offer a more inteligent viewpoint, instead of attacking this site. This thread should have aroused suspition from the first post; where the guy who called for no flaming started right into flaming.
Chris G - maybe next time you should ask that only those who agree with you respond ? Actually, that would be more like the other sites...

Message: Chris G,
The answer to your question is:
Any oil, any brand, any formulation, is okay to use in your 5.2.......IF it meets or exceeds the manufacturers recommendations.
That is what the alphabet-soup API Ratings on the oil container are about.
Synthetics? There are quality and performance differences between synthetic oils but it is a safe bet that any synthetic outperforms any dino-oil.

Message: Chris G,
If you are interested in comparing the performance of synthetic oils against each other in a number of lab tests (as opposed to infomercials) using your existing oil requirement, 10W-30 for example;
www.amsoil.com.
Right on top, in the gray box, click 'product information' then click 'motor oils' on the product category list.
There it is! Next to the 10W-30: See how Amsoil (ATM) stacks up to the competition
