Message: I will look for the tests again .I read an article the other day they took a Colorado a Toyota Dakota a Honda And a Gmc all Quad cabs all 4x4s.The Colorado finished last but we were not far behind the Dakota finished 4th out five. And yes I hate to say it our truck did have the 4.7 v8.Hey look at the bright side they did say they loved the throatyness sound from the dakota but basicly they said the weight of the bulky truck killed the little 4.7s power it weighed almost 700 pounds more than the Honda. They tested speed they tested off road handling on road handling and pulling stength and interiorspace and design. There were only 5 guys judging and there was a little disagreement about the Dakota 2 guys thought it should a been second to the Honda because of the good handling on and of road.Wich I noticed the handling in my Quad is awesome so I agree it should a been 2nd. Well anyway talk about ruining a good truck watch these crash tests!!!http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ncap/cars/3616.html

Message: IMHO the new style Dakota (05+) is the best DC has made yet.
They are the best dezine, Build, handling Dakota ever.
All the haters are just jealous.
Just wait till we start seeing them with 200,000 miles and the Honda's are all dead because they cant handle the truck duties.
Its a frikkin Minivan with a bed!

Message: I did own both but sold the Dak this week. Just the Honda(s) & Saturn now.
The Dak was the best truck I owned. Had several Dak(s), only changed them because I wanted a different look & engine. I'm already looking for a replacement - another Dak, Gen II.
Also owned several s-io(s). Dak is preferred! For an American product the quality is there on the Gen II.
Drove a ridgeline last week, did not impress me. I do not need that "back seat"!

Message: The Ridgeline is NOT a truck.
They need to stop comparing it to Dakota's and Tacomas LOL!
The few times I have seen TOOLS and SUPPLIES in the back when people used a Ridgeline for work duties, the a$$ end was scraping the ground!
Let's see how well it handles when it has 1,000 Lbs in the bed!
Like someone said. It IS a MiniVan under that unibody wanna be truck.
They must not be THAT fast. Today one tried to gun it and pass me on the right when I was driving my F350 WORK truck loaded with tools and parts.
I stepped on it and the Honda didn't pass me :P

Message: I don't know about that, haven't been nickel and dimed by mine. Your wrong about Honda, they sem to think they already have a "real" truck; don't they even go so far as to consider the Ridgeline "full size" ? They should never try to market a "full size" truck to a carpenter that won't fit a full sheet of plywood in the bed ! I agree with GD, Honda doesn't understand real trucks.

Message: Hey Chris, I have three of these trucks and I still have lots of nickels and dimes in my pocket. The only money I have spent outside of maintenance and warranty work is $356 for new exhaust manifold studs on one side of the Durango (w/103K miles).
Looks like you either picking a fight, or you got "stuck" with the badly built/poorly maintained statistical sampling. Or you might just be shooting your mouth off.

Message: So far replacements. No, I mean no offense to anyone.
Got the truck 2 years ago with 50k miles on it. now has 90k.
Ok, heres the list
Heater Core (twice) $80
A/C Evaporator $139
Head Gaskets $80 for upper kit
Plenum Gasket $15
Rotors (2 times) due to warping badly. $300
Coolant Return Hose (Left me stranded when it bursted) $7
A/C Drier $85
All Calipers/Wheel Cylinders $200
Engine Mounts $40
Oil Pump $400 with installation of high volume
This is only a short of the list.
This is ALREADY $1346.00.
I will NEVER f**king buy another Dakota. I just come here for help with the one I have now. I take that back. I will never buy one of those ugly as hell new ones. Those never leave the lots where I come from anyways.....I may would buy a R/T Gen III. I want the new Tundra....nobody can argue with that. And your right, the Honda is not a REAL truck. I wouldnt buy it for so. It's kinda like a "fashion statement". Like the Motorola Razr. Great for style but very poor for the actual phone part.
So far this is
Mostly major stuff.

First off, what gives the Honda Ridgeline the title of being a pickup truck? You could rightfully call it-"a very Unique SUV"
Of course Car&driver as all ways had a biased against Chrysler products. So I really no longer

Message: Some of the things that plaques Dodge Dakota's (ball joints) seem to be a well known issue.
Many of the things listed are very rare/random from truck to truck.
Like head gaskets. NONE of the Dodge Dakota engines had a gasket PROBLEM.
Only in Chrysler CARS and minvans that used to use the MISTUBICHI engines did they have a common head gasket failure.
A/C problems randomly plaques owners of ALL MAKES!
I don't care if it's Toyota OR Honda. Many people with those "reliable" makes have problems with A/C leaks or compressors going out. So THAT is not a Dodge only problem.
And a coolant hose? Defenitely NOT Dodge specific.
The things I hear on a REGULAR basis were the plenum gaskets on the 318/360 engines.
Ball Joints in certain years. Which was the only problem I have had so far at 44k besides breaking the cable on my electric windpw (but look how I used to drive my truck offroad).
And the brake rotor problems people have.
While brake pads and rotors plaqued our 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan, I finally replaced my first pads on the front of my Dak at 40k miles, the rear disc brakes and all of rotors still original.
The Dodge Drivetrain has been known to be reliable compared to many other makes.
