Can anyone tell me the difference between the 3.5 axle ad the 3.9
axle on the '97 Dak? What does each one help the truck do better.
Cause I think I have the 3.5 axle... not sure tho.

are you talkin about 3:55 and 3:92 rear end gear ratios? more than likely you have the 3:55 gear. i believe 3:92's are standard on the rt's only unless otherwise ordered special from the dealer.

and try to be more specific with your questions so you dont get wise @ss replies.

Sorry, my mistake. But anyone who knew what I was talking about
probably would have gotten what I meant. here, i'll rephrase...

I don't understand the 3:55 versus the 3:92 on the axles. What is
the difference between the two?

the 3:55 axle sings Higher than
the 3:92 axle

now gears well thats another song
3:55's are a higher ratio of the two
with 3:55's you "should" see slightly better MPG's on highway travels

and with 3:92 you would get better off line performance (also better for towing or hauling heavy loads)

that help?
