 Subject: headlights cutting on/off

my headlights seem to be cutting on/off at night. i checked the wires and plugs and they seem okay. bulbs are bout a year old and shouldnt be going out. they both go on and off at the same time, once or twice a few weeks ago the check gages light came on but never came back. any idea on what it could be, im thinking a short or something?

What year is your dak? I have a 94 and when mine starts acting up like that, I replace the headlight switch and it fixes it.

i was thinking the same thing. they come back on when i turn my switch on/off. mine is a 98', the one with the pull out knob. how hard was it to change?

I have the same pull out switch, but mine is a 94 and yours a 98 our dashes are different. Lucky I can replace mine in about a half an hour. I don't know how easy it will be with your different dashboard.
