I bought my new 04' Dakota a while back. It has the small V8 with the auto trans. After a couple of trips in the thing, it feels wheezie, and 'hunts' to want to shift down while doing the speed limit up small hills. I finally need to get off my butt and think about getting an intake modification and perhaps a 'cat.- back' system, but I don't really know what system or whatever would be the best.
Would anyone be good enough to point me in the right direction. What the hell should I do, or perhaps don't waste the money or whatever. Have any of you been really happy with such a system.

Damn hommie, I thought this thread was about the Jefferson's.
Mine doesn't hunt going up small hills. I have an 02 QC 4.7L V8. What do you mean hunt? do you notice anything going on with the RPM guage?

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Before making any mods, figure out what the problem is and get it fixed.

Being an auto tranny owner...I agree with TexasTodd. Might be able to help reduce those problems adjusting the tv cable a lil.

mine is an auto transmission and doesn't hunt. Sure it wants to downshift, but if you keep the gas steady it'll stay in the same gear, RPMs will jump a little.
no transmission should hunt, not even an auto on an inclide.

Hommie, The *hunting* you are more than likely
talking about is the tranny going in and out of
torque converter lock up with evey hill it comes
to.
I to have the same problem with my 02 4.7 Sport.
It's a moron DC engineers way of not letting
the engine *work* up a hill of ANY grade. You
REALLY notice it while in cruse control.
What you save in gas in full *lock up* over
drive is LOST going up a 5% grade. Great thinking
isn't it?
For that reason alone, I'll never buy another
truck of any brand with a auto tranny again. I
don't care to have it computer controlled.

Hommie sounds like a standard 45RFE trans its one of the trademarks of the 604series trannies but in all seriousness you should take it to a dealer and get the controllers reflashed. making sure they look for transmission TSB's. Do you have any codes stored in the computer? poss Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) fault just 1 of a few possible things that can give you shifting problems
