Walmart SuperTech Oil is a Group III hydrocracked base oil (made from Crude Oil), ... NOT a PAO based 100% True Synthetic Oil --- Group IV/V (made from Liquid Natural Gas).
Who makes it? There were actually two answers:
In the U.S. -- last time I asked it was Quaker State ...
... (actually a subsidiary of the "old" Quaker State Company)
In Canada it was made by PetroCanada using
Chevron's hydrocracking technology.
Remember to judge an oil by what is does (how it protects) and NOT what it costs.

Message: Well it must protect pretty well. I've been using the oil on a 4 cyl. Saturn motor and have 142,000 miles to date. Not bad for a cheap "Group III hydrocracked base oil (made from Crude Oil)".

Message: I used to use it on my old malibu. It seemed fine, i tried out GTX and ran a bit better. I think i am going to try the supertech synthetic though. Any synthetic is better that dino.

Message: Well,
I'm STILL using Mobil 1, super syn, despite claims that it is no longer a fully synthetic.
And, I'm STILL using the Walmart brand oil filters, and both my car/truck have NO engine problems.

Message: I was actually going to pick up one of their filters but they seemed considerably shorter than they should be which is why i went elsewhere. Maybe i will give them a shot too.

Message: I am a little bummed out to hear mobil 1 may not be a true synthetic now.I proably won't be be using mobil 1 anymore.I guess if I am going to use a hydrocracked synthetic it might as well be Super Tech it is about 7 bucks cheaper than the other brands.I like to change my oil at 5000 mile intervals anyway.proably a good syn - blend would go 5000 miles.Which brings up another good question amsoil man which is better the best name brand syn-blend or Super Tech synthetic.

Message: Well don't get carried away. For some reason people believe everything that's posted on this site. Why all of a sudden Mobil 1 is not a fully synthetic oil? Because some fool posted false info here. Come on!

My findings: over a two year period, 3 different samples (different viscosities), of Mobil1 EP showed the main base oil to be Group III basestock when analyzed with modern gas chromatograph equipment. The results were reviewed by third parties to confirm the results.
Furthermore, the foreign Mobil1 website clearly states that various grades of Mobil1 are Group III (Hydrocracked) / Group IV (PAO) blend.
My research determined that almost all of the Mobil1 and Mobil1 EP viscosities probably contain a significant amount of Group III basestocks.
The only Mobil1 motor oils that appear to be PAO and have not changed their formulation are Delvac1 diesel engine oil and the Mobil1 Motorcycle oil. All others are suspect.
