Subject: Timing Specs for '89 3.9 MT

Message:
Can anyone tell me what the timing should be set at for my '89 Dakota Sport, 3.9L v-6, Manual Transmission? I have the Haynes manual that tells how to set it, but it doesn't give the specs and the sticker under my hood is gone.

Thanks,

John

Can you be more specific on what you are looking for? I have the Chrysler service manual, and I might be able to find it...

Ignition timing at idle should be X degrees BTDC.

It would probably be in the section about the ignition system or distributor (or maybe a section about a general tune-up).

Joe, I just got the truck so I haven't done too much with this manual. But my past experience is that the Haynes manuals are usually pretty good (better than Chiltons). The factory service manual is usually better (more specific, goes into more detail) but alot more expensive. The only advantage of the Haynes manual over the factory manual is that they assume you don't have specialized tools, so they sometimes explain alternate ways to do things using more normal tools. For $15 I'd say its worth it.
