Subject: What Exhaust to Buy?
IP: Logged

Message:
Need some help from the experts. I'm looking to spend some cash on a new exhaust for my 04 Dakota. I'm looking for a nice deep tone, not crazy loud. Hopefully increase my HP and MPG's by a little. Looking to spend under $500 if possible. Any suggestions?

Just finished installing my cold air intake, I figured this was the next logical step.

Thanks.

Flowmaster force 2 systems can be bought for around $350-400 and they use the 50 series muffler so it won't be as loud as the original 40 series flowmaster. You can get them in either dual or single side exit. You could also just go and visit a local muffler shop and get them to custom make one using what ever muffler and exit position you want. Flowmaster 50 series mufflers can be bought for as low as $50 plus figure around $250 to get the custom pipes made and installed, might cost less depends on the shops labor rate. If you want a deep, smooth but not so loud tone to your exhaust you cant go wrong with that muffler I have one on my 99 318 4x4. It's just loud enough for the people in the car next to you to have to turn their radio up but also quiet enough on the inside of the truck that you can take a long trip and leave the tylenol at home. To me gibsons and magnaflows are just over priced glasspacks and dont have nearly as smooth a tone. However the bolt on systems from both of them are about the same price, I think.

I can get the dual sport swept side Gibson for under $300 for the aluminized. What is the negatives on the aluminized? Will it rust a lot quicker? What is the life span we are looking at? The polished SS exhaust look sweet but they are under your truck and a bit expensive, is it worth the money?

Well that depends I have had mine for only a few months so couldnt tell ya how long they will last but anything you put on is going under your truck. The stainless will long out last the aluminized of any kind of muffler or pipes. So is that worth the extra 100 bucks probabley .Im sure the Uluminzed will last 5 to 6 years maybe maybe not I will bet on they will. Also might depened on were ya live.

I would go with the Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow. I have a 40 series now on my R/T (5.9L V8 for those of you out of the loop. The in-cab niose is too much, so I'm going with the 50 Series. The "50 Series SUV" is way too mild

i have a gibson swept side single, alumnized on my truck, had it for about two years, if you have the money, get the stainless, my muffler is rusting and so are the pipes. i am driving my truck in northern arizona so we do get some snow in winter, that helped speed up the rust. Good interior sound, nice rumble when u stand on it but quiet the rest of the time. I want to get rid of it though and get s dual set up of some kind, not sure on the details
