..test drove a 2006 dakota 4x4 and was disapointed over suspension oscilation and poor recovery with excessive roll around turns. I noticeed the front susp.is coil over shock where the front susp.in my 92 Dakota is torsion rod. The o6 also has lots of hard brittle plastic throughout the interior. Anybody test driven a 06??

I *was* going to test drive a 06. The saleman
gave me the keys, I sat in the thing, looked
around and seen how cheap the inside plastics
looked and the seats are another story in itself.
I didn't even start it or drive it. I gave the
keys back and told the saleman I'll keep my 02.

I'm not sure what my next truck will be but DC
is not looken so good any more.. Even the full
size Rams are getten a bit bulkie and only two
cab sizes offered.

The very FIRST thing I noticed (besides the cheese-slicer styling) when the GenIV came out was instruments replaced by idiot lights on the panel. Abandoning the regular cab market was a crock, too. The lightest truck is packing 4250 pounds; performance and mpg take a hit. Oh, well....

i drove an '05 QC SLT for about 8 weeks, Dec.'05 to Jan '06, when they first came out. my '00 QC was in the body shop and the '05 was the rental they gave me. put 1600 miles on it and just couldn't get used to it.

very disappointed in it. the seats were about as comfortable as a brick. lack of gages. the interior had a cheap plastic look and feel to it.

only good thing was the 4.7.

Just by being shocked at the way the goofy sheet metal up front, plus a truck that as about the same ground clearence as a minivan (4x4 and 2x4),no other optional engine, the 260HP 4.7 is just a real joke (offerd 330 ftbls in the Jeep brand) and of course theres no longer a desire to have a V8 powered midsize truck when you got a Nissan producing 5 more ponies (265) and about the same amount of toruqe as the lower output 4.7.

I never thought I would ever think this; but just how many Ford Rangers do you think has been used to pull a D-body or 05- Dakotas out of a washout???

Now that something I always wanted when I was in Highschool. A Ram 2500 V10! But of course I wasn't thinking of insurance cost and upkeep. Gas back then was about .98 gallon so that wouldn't have been a big deal.

..test drove a 2006 Tundra 4x4 yesterday. Very impressed. Firm suspension. No body roll around turns. Great suspension recovery over bumps. Snappy throttle response (v8). Reminded me very much of my 92 Dakota. Interior/dash a pleasure to look at. Full inst. How come Dodge did such a crappy job on the 2006 Dakota?? Every manufacture goes into production with a design concept based on customer appeal. What happened here??

I have some Dakota miles and years logged on a 95, 98, 02 and now a new 2006 that I got a great deal on. Without question, the 2006 is the most refined, best driving of all of them. I am comparing SLT Club cabs 4 x 4 and all had the V8. The ride, handling and driving comfort of the 2006 is much better than the 2002 with the same engine. The five speed automatic is smooth and a pleasure to drive. At first, I thought the seats were firm, but after driving the 2006 for a while, I have come to appreciate the support after driving three or four hours without stopping. This is the first new vehicle that I have ever bought that has been perfect--no problems. My other trucks were all bought new and had numberous issues from the start. The sound system has also been greatly improved. My 02 required two driver seat replacements. Brakes are also tremendous on the new truck (major problems on the 02). I don't know if I will ever grow to like what this truck looks like, but am impressed and appreciate the engineering improvements. If you buy one make sure you get the 4.7 V8. As you can see, I am very happy with my purchase and am looking forward to towing my 4,500 pouond boat in the Spring.
The deal that I got was impressive--$860 under invoice, $4,000 in rebates on the left-over 2006 and I used my $1,000 Dodge coupon that I got in the mail. The 2002 with 108,000 mile on it was worth $9,400 on the trade. The list price on the truck was $28,450--I was out the door, tax and registration for $12,245. Best vehicle deal I have ever had in 35 years of driving. Give that new Dakota a fair chance--looks are only skin deep. Happy Holidays, Fishful Thinking (boat's name)

You're 100% correct about the skin deep looks to.
I guess us pre 05 owners can't get use to the
change DC made to the Dakota's body style.

I wonder if Dakota,s come with the full gauge
package if the tow package is ordered?

Fishful - how did you get a $1000 coupon in the mail??

I can't even get an acknowledgement letter from Dodge on a complaint I filed because of a sales manager at a 5 star dealer telling me he didn't have time for me, he had a family to go home too and that it was a retail environment and he didn't have to sell me a car even considering the vehicle I was looking at would have been my 3rd consecutive dodge vehicle. The dealer was only giving me $500 off MSRP in addition to the current $3000 incentives Dodge was offering at the time - they would not come down in price any more. Oh yeah, he said i was being unreasonable in asking for more off since I was already getting $3,500. Keep in mind that the $500 was an internet thing EVERYONE got and the $3000 came out of Dodge's pocket, not the dealers.

That 06 magnum my wife liked so much is STILL on the lot waiting to be sold (they still have the same ones they had over a month ago when we looked at it).

I'm totally disappointed with the new Dakota's. I don't care about plastic and gauges and stereo's either. The lack of a regular cab is critical for me. The new ones weigh 4 to 5 hundred pounds more and are to two to three feet longer than my RC. They no longer offer the 1850 load capacity and you can't get the 3.92 rear end without buying a bunch of useless crap. You end up with sticker price over 30K and nothing but a town car with a box on the back, suitalbe for hauling a vanity for your wife or towing your boat to the lake once in awhile. NO four wheel disc brakes either. HOw are going to stop that boat?

Radio Man, I have the towing package--the gauges are not there. If the transmission gets hot there is an idiot light--same as the 02. Never had any problem towing with any of the Dakotas. 4,000 pounds is nothing with the V8.
Dan M, The Dodge Dealers in Connecticut work hard for your business. The $1,000 coupon just appeared in the mail. Make your best deal and then present the coupon. Somehow I think that Dodge knew that I was ripe for another vehicle--my last one was a 2002 and targeted me in an effort to move the left-over 2006 models--there are a lot of them. I looked at the Tacoma and the Nissan, but saving $6,000 to $7,000 plus dollars and a better trade $$ kept me in a Dakota. I have also been very happy with the service I have received from the Dodge Boys. My wife brings the Jeep for service and is always treated with respect. Happy Holidays!! Fishful
