That stinks. Could be your heater core is shot, or the mixing door is not opening. Did it work last time u used it and when?

Another thought is that the thermostat is opening too soon and not letting the coolant get hot enough. Does anything happen when u switch to foor heat or vent heat from defrost?

No...it'll be on defrost and be cold...and it's still cold when I switch to heat...vent or floor. I went on a short trip yesterday of about 30 miles or so. On my way for about 1/2 way there, it was totally cold. I then started messing with the controls and after messing with them for a few minutes, it started getting warm. But today, I tried the same thing. It stayed cold. I thought it might be the thermostat, but the engine isn't getting any hotter than usual. After it heats up, it stays about 200 degrees or so. No more, no less.

seeing as you did get some heat after playing with the controls, I would assume, and I hope correctly, that the mode switch is kaput. I don't know how it operates, electricly or mechanically as in the old days, but the doors to let in the heat must not be opening. May be stuck in the shut off mode which in our 99' Daks is the one all the way to the left. My 99' takes awhile to get heat, like 5 miles amd then a little further to get hot, and when you switch modes it sometimes takes a minute to switch, so my mode switch may be on it's way out too.

I'm having similar problems, I'm pretty sure it's the heater core on mine though.I get a little bit of heat.. Those of you that think it is the control. It is cable driven. you can easily pull off the face of the dash and check the cable at the control knob.Other wise it means taking the dash off to get to the heater core.... I'm trying to find any way to fix this without doing that....

The heater and air conditioning system is a blendair
type systems. In a blend-air system, a blend door
controls the amount of conditioned air that is allowed
to flow through, or around, the heater core. A temperature
control determines the discharge air temperature
by actuating an electric motor, which operates
the blend door. This allows an almost immediate control
of the output air temperature of the system.
The outside air intake can be shut off by selecting
the Recirculation Mode with the mode control. This
will operate a electric actuated recirculation air door
that closes off the outside fresh air intake and recirculates
the air that is already inside the vehicle.
