Subject: Just installed my intake IP: Logged
Message: Thought some people would be interested...Just installed a new K&N FIPK intake in my 2004 Dakota 4.7L QC. Sounds amazing, really aggressive once the RPM's get over 2500. Totally changes the sound of your engine.
Haven't had a chance to figure out any change in MPG's of HP's, will update in a few weeks.
Install was tougher than expected. Not technically tough, just physically tough because of not having the right tools or the hand size of a first grader. Of course with my luck I broke my external temp sensor that get installed into the intake.
Can anyone answer what the inplications are of breaking this sensor? Is this for your temp guage in your vehicle that tells you what the temp is outside? I don't have that feature, so i'm confused if this is for another purpose. Engine light is on, so I'm assuming that's the cause. I'll get it checked out in a few days, hopefully it's no big deal.
Can anyone advise?

Message: That should be the cause of your engine light, and nothing to do with the temperature feature you don't have. It reports the temperature of the incoming air to the PCM (computer) so it can adjust fuel, as cold air is denser (more oxygen, so PCM feeds more fuel to go with it). Once you replace the broken part, you might need to go through a few drive cycles or reset to PCM to clear the light.

Message: The hole for the sensor was 3/4". Who has a drill bit that big??? I used a 3/8" bit and just carved the hole big enough to hold the gramut.

Message: Me for one. A carpenter's spade bit should work fine for drilling plastic like that; glad you found something that worked for you...

Message: After installing the air sensor we put some all purpose rubber cement around the sensor also jetfan. Somthing to keep in mind we didnt think that little rubber ring would do the trick by itself.
