Putting in less oil doesn't make a difference at all. I had 5 1/2 in mine and its still there. its just one of those things that us 4.7 guys are going to have to live with.

Unless, either the aftermarket offers or we make an oil filler cap in one valve cover. Then remove and block off the silly plastic funnel filler tube. Has anyone pulled a valve cover on the 4.7 ? Is there room for a filler cap ?

I've had my Quad Cab since August of last year and have already put over 13,000 mi. on it. Obviously I don't take short trips and I have had consistent oil changes. Every oil change I have the goo in my filler cap. I'm just now hearing about the fix and plan to implement soon. I've heard a few talk about moving to synthetic oil to fix but I assure you it will not fix the problem. I've been running Syntec since 3,000 miles. I'm not sure if the filler cap and baffle change will eliminate the goo but it's better than nothing. I haven't driven it through the summer months yet so I'm not sure if it will diminish during the warmer weather or not. BTW, I have to use just slightly under 6 qts. including filter and it is not overfilled. I'm somewhat apprehensive about underfilling it. Overall, I love my Quad and the 4.7 in the mid-size truck rocks!!

I have a 2000 4.7 4x4 club cab and I also have the foaming oil problem. I had the "fix" done at about 25000 miles. It doesn't do anything except hide the foam. I have used Quakerstate, Kendoll and others. I now have 56200, yes thats right. I ordered the truck in October 99. I have sent in a sample of my oil to one of those oil anaylsis places and the report showed no water. I have talked to some that said it could be caused by short drives, but I have had the problem in short, long, summer, winter and all driving conditions. I have also seen small amounts of foam under the oil cab of a friend of mine's 1999 Dodge Dakota with the 5.2L 318. Even though they do not have a filler tube, the oil goes in directly into the valve cover.

I had the same problem until I switched to mobile 1. Once I switched to mobile-1 the foam went away!

I wanted to say that since my wife started driveing the Dodge the foam has returned. It is not as bad though as it was with the factory oil. When I was driveing it(first 11000 miles) I was doing Hwy driveing over 72 miles a day. She drives it about 40 miles a month around town. I could put all of the foam in the neck on a nickel so we are not talking about alot of foamed oil. I also wanted to add that my Moms new Toyota Tundra does the same thing. It has a similar style of fill neck but it is on the valve cover and is made out of aluminum. So it is not exclusive to our Dodges!!!

I have a 2001 Motorsports Edition Dodge Dakota w/the 287 (4.7). It is only driven on nice days and is always garaged when not in use. I drive it on average 20-40 miles a week. I use mobil 1 5w30 on all 3 dodge vehicles I own and fill them to manufacturer spec. and I have never had this problem on any of my vehicles. Personally, I would try using mobil 1 for 2 or 3 oil changes and see if the problem goes away. Both of my buddies that have the same motor have this problem and neither uses mobil 1.

I havnt found the right place to ask this, so I figured I would do it here. I have a 2001 Dakota Motorsports Edition. With the 4.7. One day at a stop light, I noticed my oil pressure was dropping, so I was like, WTF, and called the dealer, he said it was a common occurance and it happens with that engine but they arnt sure as to why. I was just wondering if anyone has the same problem, or if anyone knows anything about it. i would appreciate it! thanks

That is how the 4.7 is, once you give it some gas it goes right back up again. i guess the oil pump is really rpm sensitive.

I currently own a 2000 Durango with the 4.7 engine that is in the dealership for low oil pressure problems. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles, the truck currently has 49,000 miles on the engine. When started I have no oil pressure for 15-30 seconds. After convinving them that there was a problem today the dealer is going to remove the oil pan!
