Message: I just picked up a new toolbox to help me better organize my tools. This got me thinking i need to buy some more to fill up the toolbox with.
Just wanting to get an idea of the tools you guys find useful (other than the obvious ones of course such as sockets, wrenches, pliars, screw drivers).
fuel pressure tester (got mine from harbor freight)
oil sending unit socket (napa - one from advance would not fit on my old 95 dakota)
quick disconnect tools (plastic kind not metal scissor kind - used to work in A/C system - from advance)
spark plug tester (light kind also got from harbor frieght)
soldering iron - everyone needs one
multimeter - i made my own test cables using small aligator clips (soldered wire to clip and also crimped down).
I have a small torqx socket set (also from harbor freight). I used this to do my brakes.
hex key set (I have set of 3 craftsman)
work lights - need to be able to see.
big @$$ drain pans (one for oil and one for coolant).
gloves - helps cut down on mess and injury.
torque wrenches (inch and foot pound).
grease - holds gaskets in place, some people use vasoline.
locking pliars - best to use on those quick disconnect clamps - i hate those things.
dremel / rotary tool - sanding, grinding, cutting metal.
good drill and drill bits (capable of drilling through steel - i prefer cobalt).
tap and die set.
I am sure there are some i forgot to mention and i am hoping i get some good ideas from you guys. Many of these i have only used a couple of times but really were handy when i needed them.

Message: How about a portable torch? Really can be a good complement to your tap and die set.

Message: All the sujestions a person can think of will not be correct when you break down. Your best bet in buying tools is get them as you see a need. But. There is one tool you do need bad no mater what. An OBD scanner. They are a real good investment. I have the autorex. It's great. I forget the model (it's out in shop)but it's easy to spot. Mine has 5 differant connectors so I can do every car/truck made American and over seas models. OBD 1 and OBD 2. It's also computer upgradeable. I looked up the referbished ones on the net and saved a bundle. I have great luck with referbished items. There totally checked out prior to sale as compared to spot checking by new ones.
So many problems .... So little time
