Message: well the brake lights don't work off the headlight switch, nor do the turn indicators. At least I don't think they do. Did you check the fuses ( 1st thing )? did you loosen any connections while replacing it? ( seems unlikely ) Did you check flasher unit or bulbs? I would say a fuse. Either under hood or under dash fuse block

Message: I dont have a single blow fuse, when the light switched burnt out it melted the plug for it, when i rewired the switch i noticed a pink wire with a red stripe that had melted, i tried to trace the wire to try to track were to leads to but it runs in the main wire harness and theres a lack of room.
even some wiring diagrams would help. this is a 96 2wd 3.9 dak

Message: only reason for melting wiring is too much current or a short. Do you have a bunch of lights working off your headlight circuit? I hear some of those new headlights that they sell aftermarket draw a lot of amps and can melt parts in headlights or switch. If all is stock it can be a short where wires got bare or chafed and are touching metal - like through the firewall or something.I would assume a fuse would blow, but sometimes larger fuses are put in for add ons. I've done that myself when I was younger and it melted some wires.
