Subject: 46re? IP: Logged
Message: i have a couple quick questions...
1)the 46re is stock tranny for an r/t, correct?
2)will it bolt up to a 3.9?
the reason being is that i'm plannin on swappin in a 360 later on and i'd like to make the swap go as quick as possible, so i wanted to get the tranny taken care of first, then rearend, etc...then the 360. is the 46re a good tranny to go with if i'm plannin on buildin the motor and push (hopefully) 480+hp out of it, all motor? i know i need a tranny kit, but as far as the tranny itself, would it be alright? thanks.

Message: it may drive a little funny
the 46RE i had in my 01 ram with the 360 would run 1600rpm at 55 or 60
the 3.9 runs a few more rpm at that speed does it not?
if you plan on making tons of power see its its possible to drop in a 48RE
or the new 68RE, 6 speed auto and i think it was tested and rated to like 850 ft/lbs
1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

Message: 68re? which models is that one on? i'll have to look into it. and on the 48re, what is it rated? is the higher number+re mean better or stronger or something? so a 48re would be better/stronger than a 46re, and so on? btw, thanks for the reply, i appreciate any help i can get. trannys are not one of my knowledgeable areas. this 360 that i'm building, im plannin on it to make gobs of torque and hp, and all motor, so i'll need something strong to start with. it would be great if there's one i wouldnt have to add a kit to.

Message: the 48RE is in diesels is mostly where you will find them
and a few in SRT-10s
the SRT-10 sersion has a higher stall than the diesel version, since, you know, deisels redline at like 3300 RPM
getting one to work would prolly be a huge pain
the 68RE is they new deisel tranny
you will find it behind the new 6.7 engine coming out in January
i was jsut talking hypotheticaly, maybe if you can run a standalone computer for the engine and tranny, which you are prolly going to have to do anyway becuase of the different engine/tranny combo
