Subject: Shifting Problem

Message:
I have a 03 R/T w/53,000 miles. Anytime I get on the gas from a stop, my truck sometimes seems confused on when to shift out of first gear, sometimes it shifts into 2nd but for the most part it sticks in first (runs up high on the rpm's) until I let off the gas and get back on it. Is it a tranny problem or what would be a diagnosis?

Same throttle aplication ? It should hold the gear until it revs fairly high if floored.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

It happens when I give it half throttle or more. It will hold the gear and then start to shudder(sp?) when I get to the higher RPM's (5,000 rpm or higher). The only time it really works shifting to 2nd gear fluidly is when I go light on the gas off the line.
I have the 7 year/70,000 mile warrenty on it so I can always take it in, but I would like to know what might be causing it before I actually do take it in. I'm far from being a car expert but it just doesn't feel right shifting out of first gear. Never had any problems driving any other vehicles (getting on the gas).
Basically, if I would try to race someone I would get smoked cause it won't shift to second gear where I think it should. Shifting to all the other gears is fine, its just from 1st to 2nd.

Uh oh. If you have the warranty take it in ASAP.

It may be a simple throttle cable adjustment to the tranny, or be loosing the band for 2nd gear or something like that!!!

Not a cheap fix when out of warranty!

Just a follow up on this post.......Well it was my trans that was the problem. Was driving along yesterday, slowed down to let a car turn in front of me, got back on the gas, and I go nowhere. Took it to the dealership under warrenty, they pulled the trans fluid stick to check the level and there were metal shavings all over it. So I'm getting a brand new trans, they aren't even gonna open it up to look at it, so for $100 I get a new trans. Well at least I can get that shifting problem fixed now.
