subscribe to consumer reports.

Their most and least reliable list is out now... no DC vehicles made the most reliable.

http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/08/autos/cr_most_reliable/index.htm?cnn=yes

Consumer Reports bases its reliability predictions in survey data from approximately 1.3 million vehicles owned by subscribers to its magazine and website.

How can the toyota FJ cruiser be named most reilable small SUV? It hasn't been out long enough for the new car smell to disappear.

Pointless survey, unreliable results.

It's just like how crappy a$$ musicians win on the MTV music awards!!!!

The people who like REAL music from the REAL bands don't watch much MTV or do the voting. The people who don't know music from a hole in the ground do the voting.

Same thing with that magazine I am sure. People that couldn't turn a wrench or know anything mechanical do the voting.

These are the same people/magazines that rated the Honda Ridgeline the best pickup truck when compared to the rest of the compact trucks on the market.

Funny thing is/was, the Ridgeline had been on the road for only a couple months at best when it was deemed "the best". Nothing like letting a product shake itself down in the real world to see if it lives up to its billing.

People who write articles for any magazine usually write toward their bias. Completely objective journalism is hard to find.

What's your left foot doing?

They should do thier most reliable on people that own something 3 or 4 years old, then you can use that data and apply it to the same product new or heck, just something else the same company makes! I guess you can't get money from the carmakers if you talk about something that's now sitting on a used car lot......

I canceled my MotorTrend subscription when that stupid Ridgeline was voted truck of the year...it's a dang mini-van with a hole in the back. Plus Motortrend is always hating on the domestics no matter what they come out with. I've got my fair amount of complaints about the big three myself but MT is just determined to take them down.

Good points about Motor Trend. I don't subscribe to any auto magazines anymore. Car and driver was better at doing comparison tests but should have used a weighted system to determine the overall winner based on the vehicle being tested (truck, suv, sports car, etc). For example Truck A had 2 more points for engine but 3 less points for creature comforts and interior layout. Truck A loses because the interior sucks? I'm sure people would rather have a 4.7L 2007 Dakota with the sucky cheap looking interrior than a 2007 Colorado with I5 engine if they hauled a 4000lb trailer around every day.

In my opinion a truck must have the following 2 features to be considered a "real" truck:
1) bed
2) more torque than horsepower

why these 2? Because it's what trucks are designed for..hauling (bed) and towing (torque).

Consumer Reports data comes only from its subscribers, not all of its readers. If you don't subscribe, you don't get any input. It's too small a specialty group to have significance. Notice also, that they don't tell the sample size. 20,000 owners, or 500?
