I just found this board, and have been looking to see if anyone else has had this problem, but I can't seem to find anything like this.

My '98 Dakota 3.9 V6 2WD (106,000 mi) has sat still for the last year. A couple weeks ago I finally got around to unlocking the front brakes, and fixing a couple of other minor things, and got it on the road again. It's been a little loud, and I figured it was a exhaust problem, so I took it in to Midas, where they found that all but 2 of the exhaust manifold bolts had broken off inside the head. They wanted $1400+ to drill & re-tap the head (with new manifold).

So I took it to my mechanic. He took one look at it and said $500 max. And it didn't even need a new manifold (mine is rusty, but didn't need replaced). I got it back 2 days later and it only came to $393.

Anyone else have this problem? The mechanic said it isn't uncommon at all, and he sees it with Ford and Chevy as well. All I know is I'm happy to have my Dakota running perfectly again.

My brother had that problem and since he works at a Dealership as a tech helper he got it done in less than 2 hrs. Its seems to be commom on older vehicles.
