Subject: Weird smell in air vent! IP: Logged
Message: I've had my truck a year. It's a 99 CC. I had noticed pretty soon after i got it that after using the A/C or the heat and I turned it to just the vent, there was a weird smell blowing through the vents. Sometimes it would only happen for a minute and sometimes it would go on for the whole time I was driving.
Well, I drove it through the summer with no smell after turing it to the vent. Then a couple of weeks ago I had to use the heat(for the first time since last winter), and i noticed it wasn't heating up very fast at all. After 15 minutes of the truck running it was just a little warm, felt like it was blowing through just the heat from the engine. And now when I turn on the heat it never gets hot, just a little warm.
I started to smell the smell after the first couple of times I turned on the heat, then it was gone along with the heat. Do these two things relate to eachother in any way? And my truck is not losing any antifreeze. Any help would be great.

Message: No, I don't even have rats around my house, so I don't think it's anything like that. I don't know what it is. I'm going to take it to radiator and A/C place to check on the heat and maybe they know what that smell could be. Of course it's not doing it now. Figures.

Message: the smell could be from just mold in the evaporator case. little heat and no loss of anti freeze, you probably need to backflush the heater core. common problem and many post on here about that. here is a thread about it with directions on how to flush the heater core:
