Ok I have a 99 club cab with a 3.9L manual tranny only mod is an air aid intake.

1. About 2 weeks ago I did my anual tune up which included removind intake and throttle body cleaning throttle body with carb and choke cleaner. Replacing cap/rotor, plugs, plug wires, pvc valve. The next day my check engine light came on I went to auto zone and got it scanned it said cylender # 5 miss fire. They cleared the codes and it went away. Then just yesterday it came back on not sure if it the same code yet need to get it scanned again. My question is how can it miss fire I just replaced every thing that could make it miss fire right?

2. My turn signal is acting up by when I push the lever down or up the green arrow on the dash board just lights up and does not flash some times. When it does this they actual light on the out side of the truck does the same thing just lights up with out flashing. It does not do it every time. But it is becoming more frequent. I have never heard of this before and I don't even know where to start. And I don't have the $$$ to go to a shop.

Thank you in advace for any help you can give me.
Kevin

1. What i would say the missfire is due to a couple of possiblities. Check to make sure wires are secure otherwise check the gap on the plug I believe it should be gapped to .40
2. Check the relay may just have a loose wire. Should be located around the steering wheel column above the pedals. keep the car on and turn signal and play with the wires until it begins to blink, that may be your issues.

#2 - Hazard flashers still working normally ? Could be the contol module - most vehicles have one for the signals, and an identical one for the flashers, so you can switch them to check. Not sure about our Daks, on most older vehicles it's 2 small can shaped parts up under the dash, often on driver's side.

as far as #2 goes

there is a relay in the fuse panel (under the driver dash) that controls the flashing. It's either round or square in shape and either black or silver in color. Check the owners manaul fuse diagram and it will tell you which one is the signal relay.

my relay went out on my old 95 dak and it would either not blink (not light up) or it would light up and stay on solid. a few bucks for the fuse relay.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm talking about Dan, and they can usually be interchanged to see if one is faulty.

Are you guys calling the FLASHER UNIT a relay ????
Flashers can and do cause this problem. And yes they can work intermitantly. And yes one sie can fail while the other still works just fine. Reguardless, the flasher is absolutely the first thing to be checking.

So many problems .... So little time

Dan seems to be calling it that; we often called it a 'flasher can" back when most were round (although I doubt that's the correct name for the part either) - we're all talking about the same parts here. So its actually called a flasher unit, even when running the signals ?

if you replaced plug wires are any of them touching metal, such as the block or valve covers, or each other? Current can leak from one to another if they are touching causing misfires. Thats why they have those plastic wire routers you push your wires into, to keep them separated.

Yes, I am calling it a relay, got a problem with that? LOL :)

Technically it is a relay as it opens and closes disrupting the electrical flow which is what causes the lights to flash.

Depends on where you shop and how old school the parts guy is. Some call them flashers, some flasher units, some flasher relays, some turning signal relay. I miss my 60 year old carquest parts guy back home, he knew everything about everything. Sometimes you had to figure out his terminology though.

Regardless that's the beast! You'll find it near the fuses and light bulbs.

also as far as #1 goes, could be a crappy wire. It may be a little lose inside. You can always pull them one-by-one and test with a multi meter slightly pulling/twisting the wire.

Thanks for all of the ideas guys. I definetlly sounds like it is the flasher/relay for the turn signal problem happy to hear that it is probablly going to be an easy fix. And as far as the miss fire goes I was careful to make sure that the wires weren't touching any grounds and I did put them in the platic tube pieces. As far as checking them with a meter I can't because I don't have a meter. My check engine light went off tonight with out me clearing the codes weird. Maybe it will just stay off.

If the light comes on again, go have it scanned to see what the code is.

Also, you can pull the plug and inspect it.
