how do i check my differential fluid and also know when its time to change it? i have a 04 v6 with 43,000 miles

I would change it out now to a synthetic and go to 100k if not posi. Every 40k if it is posi.

Start with the truck on a level surface.Look at the back of the differential. You'll see a rubber plug there. Pull out the rubber plug. Stick you finger in the hole, and point it downwards. The oil level should be just up to the bottom of the hole.

If you have posi, be sure and use the correct additive if it isn't included in your synthetic oil.
