Message: P0455 Large (gross) leak detected in the evaporative purge system. I dunno what that means but if you dak is still under warranty I would take it to the dealership to have it looked at.

Message: Thanks kicker. Anyone know what this
means? ? Is it ok to drive the truck until I can
bring it into the dealer? I put on a Mopar cold
air intake kit a couple of months ago. Could
this have anything to do with it? Should I try
and reset the computer and see if the light
comes back on? Truck is a 2000 Sport 3.9.
Thanks

Message: Here is the scoop.
Under specific condions, 2 'diagnostic' tests are run to verify that gas fumes are not escaping from the fuel tank.
1) close off all hoses py picking some relays then attempt to pump a slight pressure in the 'air' above the gas in the fuel tank. verify pressure can hold. (failure throws code PO455)
-- if this passes--
2) open a specific-sized orfice and time the bleed-down time thru this small hole.
I hesitate to get any more technical than the above generalization. (Some folks may have heard the pump in phase1 after starting their Dak... it is a soft thumping or ticking sound under the hood for about a minuite.)
BOTTOM LINE: The most common reason for the PO455 error code is caused by not having the gas cap on tight.

Message: Thanks Bruce, I appreciate your help. The gas
cap was the first thing I checked. I reset the
comp. and the light has stayed off. My dealer
told me the light probably didn't mean
anything. Must be a common occurrence.

Message: Hrm, I've gotten one of these now. Could it be, because I changed to a locking gas cap?? Anyone else get this error that can tell me a little more about it. I have no idea what the "evaporative system" is?
