I have a 2003 CC V6 auto. About 2 weeks ago my ac or heat will only work with the fan turned all the way up to full speed. When I turn it down one notch from full the blower completely turns off. This happens either with the heat or A/C on. Does anyone know what this could be. Like I said I have a 2003 with 27500 miles on it obviously the warranty is expired. Don't really have the money to dump into the truck.

Thank you
Greg

Sounds like a resistor is bad. Good place to look would be down by your feet in the duct work.Remove the screws and see if it is dirty or burned apart.I am not sure what about the location of it though. Someone else might chime in and give you a better idea. That would be a good place to start though.Goodluck

greg232,

My blower JUST stopped working on my 2002 V6 this weekend! I have almost identical symptoms (Fan, Heat, A/C - including LED indicater) only work when the fan control is turned to the max setting (level 5). Clicking down to levels 1-4 has the effect of turning the HVAC system off.

I've checked all of my HVAC fuses, all appear to be 100% functional. I'm planning on pulling the A/C relay out tomorrow and testing that. I may take Woodrow's suggestion and check the resister tomorrow as well.

Please keep me updated (either on the board or email) if you find anything out about this - likewise from me.

Think I found a solution in another post:

http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/dea/62-1.html

It looks like the resistor card (P/N 04885635AB - $11.10) is a common problem on our trucks. Borrowing from linked post:

"... get on the floor on the passenger side and look a little above and to the right of the floor duct. There will be a plug with 5 or 6 wires going into it there. Unplug it( you will have to remove the little red locking device with pliers and squeeze the big clip while pulling ) then you will have to take out the two little bolts(5/32 I think)..."

Hope that helps - that's the first thing I'm trying tomorrow!

Thanks again to everyone on the forum (past and present) who helped. That $11 part did the trick - took about 30 minutes to replace... probably could have been 5 minutes after doing it once.

Nothing tricky to it (other than figuring out how you'll get your hands between some of the HVAC components).

FYI - the part number has changed now that it has been re-designed. The NEW part number is: 5174618AA (List Price: $13.91... [My] Price: $10.70... After Tax: $11.40).

Six Sigma design & production forgotten / overlooked on this part!

How many years have they produced it??

How many sold??

Must have a low risk value on their FMEA, & they have not caught on to the basic QFD Model.........

I had this happen last spring. I went to the dealer to get the $11 part everyone was talking about. Instead they now supply a $30+ part, but it actually looks like it will last the life of the vehicle now, instead of the extremely cheap stock part I pulled out.

BTW, the change out took 5 minutes, so no problem for you there.

blakdak,

Please see my above message... I will REquote for you:

I don't know what you bought for $30... but it wasn't a resistor. List price is $13.91

Guess I missed your post when skimming through. Who knows? Apparently my dealer was screwing me over then. If it fixed my problem I guess I could care less though.
