LOL! But not on my Dakota. On my ATV. 350cc with home brew Turbo and EFI. I have been BUSY messing with this thing!

Today I got it programmed close enough and it didn't sound too bad.

Let me make soem space in case them google ads get in the way!!!

It is very simple as far as the controller goes.
This is my test board until i can design and have a good one etched.

So far it only has the Microchips 16F688 20Mhz Microcontroller. The 339 comparitor IC I had lying around. I needed that to convert the small signal from the junk yard cam sensor to a 5V pulse to feed the micro controller.

There's how I have it installed for now. The turbo was NEW. The blow off valve was used from a Volvo or something in the junk yard :)

MAP sensor. Another Junk Yard item.

Rediculously huge Throttle Body.

The injector Rammer got me from his other bro in law. It is a HUGE injector.

Fuel pump. I had to buy it NEW after the used one broke. Found it cheapest for $70. It's for a EFI Mustang :p

The regulator I took from a junk yard fuel rail.
I think a Saturn or Cavalier.

It started and ran. The ONLY sensor hooked up so far is the MAP!!! There is a TPS, and an O2 sensor and the micro controller has inputs for them But I have not written them into the programming yet.

It don't run too bad just based on the MAP. Well and of course the CAM sensor I had to fabricate into the timing chain cover.

It's been a really good learning experience. Once I'm done (and hopefully without blowing anything up!) I should know something more about EFI.

Wow great job man. I though about working with the megasquirt kit before but im to chicken to tear up my firebird again and attempt it. Maybe I need a smaller project like this to get some nerve to convert from tpi. How much boost are you running into that thing. Almost makes me want to start on my seadoo XP.

IS the Seadoo a 4 stroke????

I haven't been able to tell yet with the EFI and not riding it yet. But holding the brake I saw at least 5 PSI.

When it was as a pull through and carbed, it saw 8 PSI. Just never had the fuel correct at full throttle then. plus it pulled oil form the turbo like mad.

If I get off early enough sometime this week, I may go out to the riverbed and try to ride it. Bringing the laptop and an extra Micro Controller to program/swap out as well.

It is a 2 stroke but i was refering to a diy fuel management system not the turbo. A 951 ist the stongest motor and I dont think they can take too much extra power of any type. Its pretty fast as is but its not to hard to go through $50 a day in gas + bombarder oil is really expensive. I think there is already a kit to make it efi but that takes all the fun and satisfaction out of it.

Yup. I was looking at Megasquirt a while back.
They are very sophisticated these days. Looks like they would practically pass emmissions LOL!!!

Looking at their code, it looks like you only needed HALF of the code to make it run!

On my ATV. I don't really need to control the IAC valve and do anything really complicated. I already made it with the trim POT on it so I can offset the pulse width on the fly.

I still need to ride it to find out where it runs good, and where it runs crappy. Then start to add the TPS and O2 into the program.

I'm learning as I go. Getting to know the power of these MicroControllers can go a LONG way. The 688, for $1.50 or whatever it was, you get a device with 8 seperate 10 bit Analog to Digital Converters, two timers, comparitors, and all sorts of devices inside a small IC. I have some powerful 40 pin 40Mhz ones I bought, but they are overkill. Right now I'm only running my 688 at the 8Mhz oscillator internal speed. That will probably be enough.

This will come in handy later when I get the Duster going and need to add EXTRA fuel for the Turbo.

congrats that was very handy and money saving...looks well thought out. however im not interested in ATV's all that much... the most interesting thing to me in all that was the metallica picture. is that a stool?

Yeah, it's a Metallica shop stool. And of course "Master of Puppets!" not the "St Anger" sheeeeet! They need to wash their mouths out for that one!

The awesome thing about the ATV project is that I am LEARNING something on a small engine. Some guy online has helped me a lot with the programming of those micro processors.

Later on it will be cake to make controllers to do things like control extra injectors, timing retard, etc (for BOOST applications).

Plus finish my security ideas for my vehicles.

But still. If I can get the ATV to be ridable form some EFI I built from scratch, it would be awesome. It's still in the works. Got some glitches to work out. Like getting it to send data to my LCD display without messing up the injection.

Got most the way through the pictures, thinking, this is a wierd looking Dakota, then it struck me.
I'm impressed with simple stuff that works. Congrads.

trucky. The crazy chemical Mixture is something I deal with on a daily basis. So I know what to do with it. So don't be a wuss if you ever ride shotgun!

It would be the ignorant (Would be theif) who fell to their demise apon it's release!

If I wasn;t taking precausions for it's use, i would have installed the tank into the truck by now :)

But I figure it will be Microprocessor controlled AND a secondary kill circuit. One that makes it impossible to energize IF the truck is already started.

I already have had a fool proof anti start mod for two years now. So there's no chance a theif would have the engine running :p

Well I went for a little ride today. I drove the truck to a riverbed and unloaded the ATV. Doing this without anyone else was not the best idea.
After riding it for a while it quit and would not restart. Had to 4X4 the truck to the river bed and when I got down there the ATV started back up instantly and ran fine. Ran fine when I got home too.
I THINK it was my cam sensor setup. For temp use I took a bent piece of sheetmetal and bolted it to the cam sprocket to pass by the cam sensor. It's easy to attatch and time the fuel injector.
I bet it WARPED when it got HOT. Then when it cooled it went back close enough to the sensor :p

Aside from that. The programming was close enough to ride. It did not hesitate at all and this is ONLY the MAP for feeback for now. The TPS and O2 is not in the program yet.

The only thing is the MAP is NOT a 2 BAR. So I get it programmed to run ok, but it don't transition the fuel as it goes from 0 PSI to 8PSI. It just hits 0 and goes as rich as my lookup table has for fuel pulse width.

I think after I get a 2 BAR MAP and some reprogramming the sucker is going to build some power in boost. It ran fairly good.

Here's a sh*tty camera phone video.
Riding one hander, so no clutch using here. Just shifting from 1st to 2nd and back without the cluthc. Bogging it on purpose and it takes off pretty good. Just no crazy power at boost yet.
The cameraphone sound is crappy as heck. Mic is too sensitive I think on my Palm Treo 650. My Motorolla 710 had better sound recording.

Video: http://www.paysonarizona.net/Home%20Videos/Projects/ATV_EFI_100406FirstRide.3g2

I'm sort of excited it ran this good after making fuel injection from the ground up.
