Subject: '04 under hood insulation does exist
IP: Logged

Message:
I've been trying to find an under hood insulation pad for my '04 Dakota 4X4 for a while. My Dodge dealer in Ohio said that Dodge didn't list that part for an '04. I moved to Virginia and the Dodge dealer here said that he had a listing for'98-'99 only. He had one in stock so I bought it, thinking that the hood didn't change from '97-'04.

I was right, and the pad clips onto the hood perfectly. Dodge even had the holes already pre-drilled. I like the look of the "Rams Head" on the pad when I lift the hood. So, just in case anyone else was wondering, the older hood insulation pad works all the way through '04. It's not cheap: $98 for the pad and $35 for 11 clips.

It does a coupla things. Insulates the hood exterior paint a little from engine heat, and absorbs a bit of engine noise.

Also, gives the under hood area a more "finished" look.

My 2000 R/T has exactly what you described. Maybe it standard on the R/T.

only reason these trucks dont have insulation underhood is Daimler/Chrysler cutting costs both in building and warranty of the vechicle they pulled the same stuff on the XJ Cherokee and Grand Cherokee every year they find something to take off or short out of a pkg. simply its all about money

My 01, SLT Quad Cab,

HAS the underhood insulation, as well as extra firewall and under cab insulation. All this
WAS with the SLT version stock. And as said,

they cut it.

I heard they have also cut the behind the pass. seat map pocket, and the arm rest storage bin.

It's called "de-contenting". They all do it.

chrysler is an example of why you shouldnt do it to the extent that they do. people eventually realize that they are being short changed and wind up with the reputation that Chrysler. one of the reasons they are called Nickel&Dimelar

SAVE MONEY!! (sorry for yelling)
Don't buy those retainer clips from Dodge. When I got the pad for my '04, they wanted to sell me the clips for $4 and change each!
Get thee to yer local NAPA store and have them order part number 665-1323. It's a bag of 25 of these same clips.
When I ordered mine, the bag of clips cost $5, plus $3 freight - less than the cost of two clips from Dodge. That'll give you the 13 you need, and a few extras for other project needs.

Thanks for the information on the clips. I've already bought the expensive Dodge ones, but I'm sure someone else will find that information very useful.

I also had an '00 Dakota R/T that had both an underhood pad AND light! Talk about "de-contenting", my '04 SLT had neither of these items installed. I guess I could try to find the underhood light too, but I don't think it's worth it. I haven't found them too useful anyway.

I like the under hood lights on the older Jeep Cherokees. Retractable. Might search around a bit (junkyard/ebay). Don't know if they'll fit a Dakota or Durango hood, but can't be that hard to make work if you can wire it up to power.

Part 2.
Just went to NAPA and found out they only put 10 clips in the bag, now, so you gotta buy 2 bags to get all the clips you need. Still, 2 bags of 10 clips at $5 each is way cheaper than buying them from "the man".
Same part number as above.
