Message:
pictures not that great but i used a small U-bolt for an extra tie down point. i think the stock ones are terrible.
this is a picture of an intake i made about year ago. after having the intake for a while i decided to make a ram air system and that is what that black pipe is that the filter is suspended above.
the ram air system gets air from the fog light hole. it works extremely well on the freeway give instant throttle response.
this is the side exhaust me and my friends made for my dakota. dakotas are not easy trucks to do this on because of the frame clearance. the paint got sand blasted off from off-roading.
this mod has to be the best i have done and come up with. it works amazingly well and all it took was 6inch bolts and 4 shocks. it raised the truck an inch in the rear and now the truck doesn't do that annoy up and done movement going down the road. it handles better expectational in the dirt. its taken all the abuse i can throw at it and hasn't bottomed out or broke. it cost about $15 for the bolts and the shocks were give to me by a friend. i recommend this mod to anyone!

Message: I just made a post last week about making tubes to go from the foglight openings to my "cold air" intake. I like how your's looks, I thought about putting mesh over the openings to keep out most debris. The other problem I thought of was if you had to go thru deep water or a puddle splashed up into your intake. After I posted it, people were saying that the road temp. can be warm and the air could actually be warmer then under my hood. Do you notice anything different when it's hot outside? I know when you're driving 70mph the road temp. isn't going to matter much.
I'm interested in how you made the tubes from the foglight openings and what theyre made of.

Message: BOOMER...... If you do deside to do this, The first thing people think of to use to keep the junk out is screan door screan. Bad mistake. It cuts air flow by close to 50%. use or get the 1/4 in hole running light covers . It's stout and air flow is good but it wont stop bugs or small rocks. One thing you can not do with this setup. You can not drive in some types of tall grass like broom grass. You'll plug a filter up in minutes.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: i have nothing to protect it from debris, but OBIO3 idea for a protector screen is a good idea. i have a plug i keep in the truck to plug the hole if its raining. i live in the Mojave desert and i still think the street is cooler than the engine bay. it does work better at night when its cooler. you will notice it most on the freeway where all it takes is a little more throttle to speed pass someone where a downshift was need before.
i used pvc piping 3inch with one 90degree turn towards the fog light opening and a 3inch to 5inch adaptor pieces. i had to cut a little piece out of the bumper support to make the filter line up right. you will have to cut through the metal to have that pipe come through.
it works really good when you hook it up to the stock air box so the air box gets all the air through that tube. to dirty where i live to leave it that way though.
if you want me to get more pictures of how i did it i will.

Message: I read a story about the RX7 Mazda was speed testing at Bonnyville. They discovered the best power came from having the air intake at the base of the windshield, where the cabin air comes from. Ram air didn't work for them at all.
I have a great collection of bug pieces, bits of straw, sand and other assorted bits of crud in my air box, since running my clothesdryer pipe to a spot next to the radiator. My MPG has pretty much stayed the same. I tend to think Ram Air Intakes are mostly to make the driver feel good.

Message: ever seen a windtunnel test of a car?
the air density is greater right by the windshield
back in the 70s chevy came out tiwh the cowl induction hood
it draws air from the pressure system created at the bottom of the windshield

Message: how about putting the inlet of the pipe behind the grill you still get the ram air affect but it would be high enuff up so you wouldn.t F.O.D. out the filter........
