4K? That's it? The rev limiter on my 5.9 is something like 5,400. Are you sure it's the rev limiter and not some other problem?

there rev limiter on a 4.7 is 6,000 rpm.

Any usable power drops off ~5400- based on dyno.

im talking of course about an idle postion in neutral...and yes...it cuts at the 4 and then bounces over and over...

"Of course" ? Why would you need (or even want) your motor to exceed 4000 rpm in neutral ? High revs are more dangerous for a motor with no load on it, perhaps the factory set a lower max rpm in neutral to protect people from themselves ? Or it could simply be proof of the claim that high revs are more dangerous for a motor with no load on it; and the valve train becoming unstable.

For an analogy that many of you who hunt would understand, you wouldn't dry fire your bow without an arrow in it (I hope !). Well known for breaking a bow that has plenty of strength when pushing an arrow as designed, just ask my coworker who recently let a friend "see" his bow...
